easyJet carry-on size and baggage allowance guide

The free small bag is 45 x 36 x 20 cm. See when a large bag is included, how checked weight pooling works, and what to fix before boarding.

The free easyJet carry-on size is 45 x 36 x 20 cm, including wheels and handles. That means one small bag beneath the seat, weighing up to 15 kg. The larger 56 x 45 x 25 cm overhead bag needs a separate booking or an eligible benefit.

A suitcase can fit perfectly and still be outside your allowance. Before packing, find the words large cabin bag on your booking. A seat near the front isn’t enough evidence.

easyJet carry-on size: the two bag categories

BagMaximum packed dimensionsWeight and placementWho gets it?
Small cabin bag45 x 36 x 20 cm; approximately 17.7 x 14.2 x 7.9 inches15 kg, about 33 lb; under the seatIncluded with the ordinary passenger allowance
Large cabin bag56 x 45 x 25 cm; approximately 22.0 x 17.7 x 9.8 inches15 kg, about 33 lb; overhead lockerPurchased separately or included through an eligible fare, bundle or membership benefit

Use the centimeter limits when a measurement is close; the inch figures are rounded conversions. The bag’s pockets, wheels and fixed handles must fit within the published box. You must normally be able to lift and carry it yourself.

The official cabin bag policy sets both limits. A permitted large bag is additional to the small bag, giving you two cabin pieces. A laptop bag or handbag normally uses that small bag allowance; it isn’t an automatic third piece.

Check the bag entitlement before choosing a seat

easyJet sells seats and baggage as different things. A bundle may combine them, which makes old advice about seat benefits especially confusing. Read the itemized inclusions instead of guessing from the seat map.

Inclusive or Extra trade option23 kg hold bag included; the large cabin bag is an extra.
Inclusive Plus, formerly FLEXILarge cabin bag and 23 kg hold bag included. Overhead space conditions still apply.

The travel trade comparison uses different names from some direct booking offers. It also says Inclusive and Inclusive Plus are sold through approved channels. Those fares aren’t offered directly on easyjet.com or its app.

For direct bookings, compare the actual bundle description on your flight. Don’t confuse easyJet Plus, the membership, with Inclusive Plus, the fare. Membership alone doesn’t add a checked suitcase.

An automatically assigned premium seat doesn’t upgrade your baggage. If the app assigns you Up Front at check-in, keep packing for your existing allowance. A lucky seat assignment isn’t a free suitcase.

For Plus members, reserve the bag rather than just carrying the card

Add the large cabin bag and enter your membership number during checkout. Check that the booking shows it afterward. Simply arriving with the membership leaves more uncertainty about locker space.

For a member without an advance bag booking, a full cabin can mean free carriage in the hold. Inclusive Plus also has a space condition. Keep anything you need during the flight in your smaller bag.

Three fit examples that catch misleading bag labels

“Cabin approved” describes a product category, not your easyJet ticket. Measure a packed bag before comparing it with the relevant limit. Our underseat bag guide explains what to look for beyond a retailer’s compatibility claim.

Three hypothetical bag examples showing small bag fit, an overdeep backpack, and a large bag that needs entitlement
Original fit examples using easyJet’s published limits. Each measurement includes the packed bag’s outermost parts.

A small roller can qualify for the free category

Hypothetical example: a roller measures 44 x 35 x 19 cm including its wheels. It clears each small bag limit. Wheels don’t make it a paid overhead bag by themselves.

Now imagine the seller’s 44 cm measurement excludes a 3 cm wheel assembly. Its actual height becomes 47 cm, which exceeds the small limit. Measure from the bottom of the wheels to the highest fixed point.

A soft backpack can fail on depth alone

Hypothetical example: your packed backpack is 45 x 34 x 23 cm. Height and width fit, but it is 3 cm too deep. A smaller total volume doesn’t cancel that excess.

Remove contents until the bag actually measures within the allowance. Don’t base the trip on being allowed to force a bulging bag into a sizer. A soft construction helps only when the packed shape genuinely fits.

A US carry-on can fit the large box but still need payment

Hypothetical example: a case measures exactly 22 x 14 x 9 inches overall. That converts to 55.88 x 35.56 x 22.86 cm. It fits the large dimensions, but exceeds the free small bag’s height and depth.

This is a fare problem, even though the case passes the larger size test. Buy the correct allowance or use a smaller bag. Compare actual external measurements in our carry-on luggage buying guide before buying a replacement.

What bags cost, and what happens at the gate

Online bag prices depend on your flight and when you buy. Compare the quote for each traveler and each direction. A bundle price also buys other benefits, so it isn’t a pure baggage price.

Checked October 17, 2026: easyJet’s English cabin help page quotes GBP 60 at the boarding gate. It says adding a large bag online is cheaper. A bag outside your booked allowance can be placed in the hold, rather than traveling overhead after payment.

The English hold luggage page separately quotes GBP 60 at the airport Bag Drop desk. These are airport purchase figures, not universal online prices. Check the currency and conditions shown for your journey.

Avoid budgeting from an old “from” price or a friend’s trip. Open Manage Bookings while extra bags are still available. Large cabin bag inventory is limited, so a later purchase may not be possible.

If the bag is taken for the hold

  1. Remove your passport, keys, medication and valuables before handing it over.
  2. Take out your laptop, power banks and spare lithium batteries. Keep them in the cabin.
  3. Check that the bag is securely closed and retain the baggage receipt.
  4. Confirm where to collect it after landing instead of assuming delivery beside the aircraft.

Don’t leave this repacking until your group is boarding. Put essentials in a removable pouch within the smaller bag. It gives you a simpler handover if overhead space runs out.

Hold luggage: booked weight, pooled weight and the 32 kg ceiling

easyJet offers 15 kg and 23 kg hold bags. Extra weight can be bought online in 3 kg steps, up to 32 kg per bag. Each customer may book up to three hold bags.

For each item, length plus width plus height must total under 275 cm. That is a combined measurement, unlike the cabin bag’s separate side limits. Paying for more weight doesn’t remove the size rule.

Travelers on the same flight and booking can pool their purchased hold weight across the booked bags. No individual bag can exceed 32 kg. Sports equipment weight cannot be pooled with ordinary hold luggage.

The same two booked bags33 kg + 13 kg = 46 kgTotal weight fits, but one bag exceeds the absolute ceiling. Repack before travel.
Only one 23 kg bag bookedTwo cases totaling 23 kgThe weight total doesn’t create a second bag entitlement. Add the required item.

Use the hold luggage rules and booking links to add a bag. Online additions are available up to two hours before departure. If you add hold luggage after check-in, download or print your boarding pass again.

Overweight bags incur a charge for each excess kilogram at the airport. Check the current amount before travel rather than assuming a flat overweight fee. The sensible comparison is extra weight bought ahead versus the airport charge.

Check both directions before adding hold baggage online

The hold luggage help page says online additions apply to all flights on that booking. For a bag needed only on one leg, compare the actual available options. The airline describes separate flight bookings or a single flight purchase at airport Bag Drop.

Don’t cancel or rebuild an existing reservation just to experiment with a bag price. Review the booking’s offered options first. A cheaper looking fee can become expensive once other changes are involved.

Children, baby bags and necessary medical equipment

A child with their own seat gets the usual booked baggage allowance. An infant on your lap may bring an additional baby changing bag, up to 45 x 36 x 20 cm. It must fit beneath the seat.

The children’s baggage policy also allows a changing bag for an infant with their own seat. Don’t read “infants included” as a free large overhead case.

For each infant or child, up to two listed child equipment items travel free in the hold. Examples include a stroller, travel cot, car seat or baby carrier. These are separate from the normal cabin allowance.

You can hand over eligible equipment at Bag Drop or use it until the gate. The airline says collection is at baggage reclaim. If you need a stroller immediately on arrival, plan for that gap.

Portable medical equipment can travel in addition to your cabin allowance. The published cabin size limit for these devices is 56 x 45 x 25 cm. Arrange larger equipment, multiple devices or assistance with the airline in advance.

The special assistance page requests notice at least 48 hours before departure. It describes support with stowing and retrieving bags. Medical devices and disability support deserve their own arrangements, rather than guesswork about the ordinary lifting rule.

Batteries, liquids and airport shopping

easyJet’s current restricted items policy allows a maximum of two power banks per customer. Each must not exceed 160 Wh. They belong in cabin baggage and cannot be used to charge devices aboard.

Laptops also belong in the cabin, even if your suitcase goes in the hold. Smart luggage must have its battery disconnected and removed; it can remain inside a cabin bag. A bag with a battery that cannot be removed is not accepted.

Keep battery terminals protected and the capacity label readable. Our power bank packing guide explains the separate battery and baggage checks. Check any connecting airline too; its limits may be tighter.

Security screening is another separate test. Liquid rules vary by departure airport and equipment, so check that airport before packing larger containers. Our liquids guide explains the usual checkpoint rules and exceptions.

easyJet lists an overcoat, umbrella, walking aids and one standard airport shopping bag as permitted extra belongings. That shopping exception isn’t permission for a separate everyday handbag. Keep your normal purse or laptop sleeve inside the small bag when needed.

Holiday packages and connecting flights need separate checks

easyJet holidays isn’t the same purchase as a flight alone. Its current holiday luggage information includes 23 kg hold luggage on beach holidays, with infant conditions. City breaks can have different inclusions.

A package’s included hold bag doesn’t automatically establish a large cabin allowance. Luxury Collection packages have their own inclusions. Read your package confirmation before adding a bag you already have.

For FlightConnections by easyJet, checked bags aren’t automatically sent through. The connection instructions require collecting and checking bags in again. Buy the necessary allowance for each flight and compare every operating carrier’s rules.

If your next flight uses another airline, even the same suitcase may need different treatment. For example, compare British Airways baggage limits against your packed bag. Keep your connection time realistic if you need baggage reclaim and another security check.

Questions before you finish packing

Is a 22 inch suitcase free on easyJet?

No, a typical 22 inch suitcase exceeds the free small bag limit. It may fit the 56 x 45 x 25 cm large category, including wheels and handles. You still need a large cabin bag entitlement.

Can I bring a handbag as well as my free small bag?

Normally, the handbag must fit inside your small cabin bag. The free allowance is one small piece, not a backpack plus a separate purse. Specific exceptions include an eligible baby changing bag and listed medical equipment.

Does an Extra Legroom seat include a large cabin bag?

Don’t assume so from the seat alone. Check for a large cabin bag in your fare, bundle or added extras. Automatic assignment to a premium seat leaves you with your original baggage allowance.

Is the 15 kg limit shared between both cabin bags?

No. The published easyJet carry-on size rules allow up to 15 kg for the small bag and 15 kg for an entitled large bag. Each must fit its own dimensions and meet the lifting requirement.

Can two people share one checked suitcase?

Yes, you can pack together within the hold allowance you booked. Pooling applies to travelers on the same flight and booking. No single bag can exceed 32 kg, even when your total allowance is higher.

What should I check before leaving home?

Match your packed bag to easyJet carry-on size limits and your booking’s actual inclusions. Check both directions, battery limits and departure airport security rules. Save the boarding pass after any baggage changes.
