Breeze International Routes: Tampa Launches and Dates

Separate operating Tampa routes from December and 2027 launches, then plan flight days, bags, documents and the total trip cost.

Breeze international routes from Tampa now include San Jose, Costa Rica, with flights launched on October 3, 2026. Cancun and Montego Bay are still December launches. Santo Domingo is further out: June 18, 2027.

That distinction matters before you book a hotel. A destination on a route map can mean an operating flight, a seasonal service or a future launch. This guide separates those stages, with Tampa’s expansion at the center and other gateways explained below.

Breeze international routes: what is flying and what comes next

The status below is checked for October 17, 2026. “Launched” describes the route’s start, not a promise of a flight every day. Use the booking calendar for the dates you need.

Nonstop from Tampa (TPA)StatusWhat to plan around
San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO)Launched October 3, 2026Wednesday and Saturday service at launch
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ)Launched July 2, 2026Check your dates; it is a different airport from Santo Domingo
Nassau, Bahamas (NAS)Launched earlier in 2026Check both directions in the calendar
Cancun, Mexico (CUN)Planned for December 2026Future service, not an October option
Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ)Scheduled from December 19, 2026Confirm the outbound and return before paying for other arrangements
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (SDQ)Scheduled from June 18, 2027Announced for Fridays and Mondays, throughout the year

Tampa’s October launch update confirms the Costa Rica start and separates it from the December expansion. The airport’s Montego Bay destination page lists December 19. These are dated route facts; your reservation supplies the actual flight time.

The newest addition is in the October 13 Santo Domingo announcement. Its June 2027 start belongs in next summer’s plans. It does not give Tampa a second operating Dominican Republic destination this October.

San Jose is the Costa Rica gateway, not a beach arrival

Choose SJO for San Jose, Costa Rica, rather than San Jose, California. Breeze’s destination page identifies SJO as Juan Santamaria International Airport. Read the country and airport code together before paying.

For a wider Costa Rica trip, choose your final destination before choosing the airfare. Ask your hotel or transfer provider about the journey from SJO. A cheap arrival can lose its appeal when the ground transfer consumes your first afternoon.

Keep the same discipline with PUJ and SDQ. Both serve the Dominican Republic, but an airport in the capital is not interchangeable with a Punta Cana arrival. Put the airport code in your transfer request and hotel planning notes.

Does Breeze fly internationally from other US airports?

Yes. Tampa is one gateway in a wider network. Cancun’s Breeze sales pages also show routes involving Charleston, New Orleans, Norfolk, Providence, Pittsburgh and Richmond.

Those links are useful starting points, not proof that every route runs in October. The sales cards include different dates, including 2027 travel. Search the exact airport pair in both directions.

Norfolk’s airport authority recorded the airline’s first scheduled international departure on January 10, 2026, to Cancun. The original expansion also included Raleigh/Durham to Punta Cana. Do not treat the original announcement’s launch dates as the latest timetable.

That is especially important for Jamaica. An early release listed Tampa and Raleigh/Durham starts in February and March 2026. The current Tampa airport information instead places its Montego Bay launch in December.

Use the official Breeze route map to find possible pairs, then move to the flight search. A map helps answer “where could I fly?” A priced itinerary answers “can I fly on these dates?”

A missing date does not prove a route is gone

Breeze describes seasonal routes that remain on its map but disappear from its booking calendar between seasons. It also sells only a defined schedule window. A search outside that window cannot settle whether a route will return.

Separate three cases: the route has not started, your selected weekday has no service, or the season is not on sale. Try nearby dates within your actual travel window. If no usable return appears, do not assume it will appear after you buy the outbound.

Our guide to interpreting route cuts explains the broader distinction between losing a flight and losing a destination. It is useful when a blank calendar starts to look like a cancellation announcement.

Build the trip around the flight days

A route with two flights per week needs a different calendar from a daily service. Begin with the available return, especially if you have a fixed work date or school deadline. Then fit the outbound around it.

For the announced Wednesday and Saturday Costa Rica pattern, a Wednesday departure and Saturday return gives three nights. Saturday to Wednesday gives four. Wednesday to the following Wednesday gives seven.

Those are calendar examples, not available fare quotes. Confirm that both selected flights operate during your chosen week. Holiday schedules and later timetable changes can alter the pattern.

Trip planning sequence: confirm both flight dates, compare the full trip cost, then check documents and packing rules.
Start with a usable return flight. Then compare the whole trip, not just the headline fare.

Give fixed departures some breathing room

A cruise, wedding or separately booked tour creates a harder deadline than a flexible beach stay. Consider arriving the day before when missing that event would be costly. A spare day is a planning choice, not protection against every disruption.

Before booking, look at alternatives you could actually afford if the flight changed. Include other airlines, nearby airports and another hotel night. Do not assume Breeze must buy you a seat on a different carrier.

If you plan a separate domestic flight into Tampa, price an overnight stay too. Two reservations do not become one protected connection because a search engine displays them together. Ask each seller who handles a missed connection and whether checked bags can transfer.

Compare the total cost of Breeze international routes

Compare the final checkout total for the same travelers, dates, bags and seats. Advertised route fares can describe one direction, a limited travel window and a particular fare. The cheapest card on a destination page is not your confirmed price.

Build a simple comparison with these separate amounts:

  • Airfare in both directions for every traveler, including taxes shown at checkout.
  • Each required carry-on or checked bag on both flights.
  • Seat choices that your party needs rather than optional upgrades you can skip.
  • Airport transport, parking and any hotel night created by the flight pattern.
  • The cost of flexibility you need, including the actual fare’s change and cancellation terms.

Hypothetical comparison: one itinerary costs $360 in airfare and bags but adds a $160 hotel night. Another costs $460 with no extra night. The second saves $60 overall, before transport or meals.

This is arithmetic, not a Breeze price claim. Use your own quotes in the same calculation. Keep currencies consistent and check which charges apply per person, per bag or per booking.

Do not equate “no change fee” with a cash refund or a free replacement flight. A fare difference can still matter. Read the fare conditions before choosing the cheapest option for a trip that might move.

What baggage should you plan for?

A new international destination does not automatically add a free suitcase. Breeze’s bag allowance separates the free personal item from paid or bundled bags. Check what your selected fare actually includes.

BagPublished standard limitBooking check
Personal item17 x 13 x 8 inches; fits under the seatOne included at no charge
Carry-on22 x 14 x 9 inches, including handles and wheels; 35 lbPurchase separately or confirm the bundle includes it
Checked bag62 linear inches; 50 lb standardConfirm the number included and the quote for your flights

Linear inches means length plus width plus height. Measure a packed soft bag, including bulging pockets. A manufacturer’s “international cabin” label does not override the airline’s dimensions.

If you want to travel with only the included bag, start with our underseat bag comparisons. Match the bag’s actual outside measurements to Breeze’s allowance. Avoid buying a larger backpack on the strength of anecdotes about relaxed checks.

Keep passports, medicine and essential valuables accessible if a cabin bag must go in the hold. Power banks need separate cabin packing checks. Do not leave one buried in a suitcase you hand over at the gate.

Check documents for the destination and the return

For ordinary US tourist travel to these foreign destinations, plan on a valid passport book. A US passport card is not valid for international air travel. Children need the appropriate travel documents too; domestic ID practices do not carry over automatically.

Check expiry requirements for your nationality and destination. There is no single six month rule covering every country and every traveler. Also check visas, onward travel evidence and any required arrival forms.

The airline’s international requirements tool asks for the airports, passport country and residency country. Use the relevant government’s current entry guidance alongside it. An airline route announcement cannot determine your individual eligibility.

For children traveling with one parent or another adult, check consent and relationship documents for the destination. Dual nationality can add entry or exit requirements. Resolve those questions before paying for nonrefundable accommodation.

The return airport can change the airport routine

Breeze’s Cancun instructions put the airline in Terminal 4. They recommend arrival three hours before departure and require checked bags at least one hour before departure. The gate instruction is to be ready no later than 45 minutes before the flight.

These are Cancun instructions, not universal deadlines for every Breeze station. Read the guidance for your departure airport and the notices on your reservation. A completed app check-in does not mean you can skip document verification.

Nassau also has US preclearance, so US border processing can occur before boarding the flight home. Follow the airport’s departure instructions rather than assuming you will handle everything after landing. Allow room for both airport security and the relevant border checks.

Security approval and customs permission are separate

Pack for the departure checkpoint and the destination’s import rules. A sandwich allowed through US security can still cause a problem at the border. Our food packing guide explains how those checks differ.

For toiletries, follow the rules at each airport where you pass security. Do not assume an allowance on the outbound applies on the return. Use our liquids guide for the US rule and important exceptions.

Keep any necessary arrival paperwork and your accommodation address available offline. Save the return booking as well. A working phone connection is useful, but it should not be the only way to retrieve essential details.

If Breeze changes or cancels the flight

Check the new schedule before accepting it, especially on a route that operates only a few days each week. A different departure day can change your hotel bill or make a separate connection impossible. Record the original and replacement itineraries.

Under US DOT refund rules, a canceled flight qualifies for a refund if you decline travel and alternatives such as credits. Qualifying significant changes can also trigger that right. Taking the replacement flight and declining it are different choices.

A refund does not automatically pay for a replacement ticket, unused hotel or missed cruise. Check the airline’s commitments and any insurance policy separately. Save receipts and contact the booking seller when another company sold the ticket.
