Baggage rules are simple questions with genuinely hard answers. How big can my bag be? Depends on the airline, the fare, the aircraft and the route. Can I take this on a plane? Depends on the item, the country, the carrier and sometimes the officer in front of you.
The web’s answer to this has been thousands of pages copied from each other, most of them out of date, almost none of them saying where their numbers came from. People find out they were wrong at the gate, where being wrong costs money.
Three things, none of them clever.
We read the source. Every figure comes off the carrier’s own page and links back to it. Our verification policy sets out exactly how.
We date everything. You can see when each page was last checked, so you can judge for yourself whether to trust it.
We leave gaps visible. Where we have not verified something, the page says so instead of filling the space with something plausible. This makes the site look less complete than competitors that guess. We think that is the right trade.
