The weight limit is 10 kg, or 22 lb, on mainline jets.
On ATR turboprops used for shorter regional routes, both the size and the weight shrink. The cap there is 30 cm high, 40 cm wide, 20 cm deep. The weight limit falls to just 5 kg, or 11 lb.

Each piece maxes out at 23 kg. Each piece also maxes out at 158 cm, about 62 in, of combined length, width and height. That ceiling applies whatever the region.

Overweight and oversized bags cost real money
A checked bag between 23 kg and 32 kg is allowed as overweight. Air Algerie does not publish the exact per kilogram rate on the pages this policy is drawn from, so that figure stays a gap.
A bag longer than 158 cm but still under 203 cm draws a flat oversize charge once ground staff confirm it fits in the hold. That flat fee is 12,000 Algerian dinars, or about 80 EUR.
Past 32 kg, Air Algerie will not check the bag under normal baggage rules. It has to travel as freight instead.

Search a United States airport into Air Algerie’s own booking tool and nothing comes back. The airline does not serve a single US city. That gap matters for the Air Algerie baggage policy specifically, since the carrier’s only North American point is Montreal.
Air Algerie has flown Algiers to Montreal nonstop since 2007. Because that route touches Canada, the airline also posts a Canadian Air Passenger Protection Regulation notice next to its normal baggage terms. Royal Air Maroc and Egyptair, its closer regional comparisons, both fly into the United States directly. That makes Air Algerie the outlier on this one point among major North African carriers.

Traveler reports on review sites and travel forums describe a recurring pattern. Claims filed for lost or delayed bags reportedly go unanswered by phone or email for weeks at a time. One reviewer said the airline would not cover the cost of forwarding a recovered bag, leaving the passenger to pay a courier directly.
Another traveler had to make a separate trip back to the airport. Air Algerie does not appear to offer home delivery for delayed luggage the way many larger carriers do by default. If your bag is missing on arrival, file the paper report at the airport counter right away.
