What Air Cairo actually is
Air Cairo is not a discount copy of Egyptair. It calls itself Egypt’s hybrid airline, founded in 2003. The fleet includes Airbus A320 and A320neo jets, ATRs and Embraers.
It serves about 90 destinations across Egypt, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, according to Air Cairo’s own site. The Air Cairo baggage policy is really two policies in one. The same airline flies scheduled routes and charter routes, with a different checked allowance for each.
Carry-on baggage: one bag, 7 kg
Every Air Cairo passenger, on every route, gets exactly one cabin bag weighing no more than 7 kg. The bag’s three dimensions, 55 by 40 by 23 cm, must add up to no more than 118 cm (45 in). Wheels and handles count toward that total.
Measure your own bag against general carry-on size rules before you fly. That 55 by 40 by 23 cm limit is on the small side by international standards. There is no separate free personal item such as a purse or a laptop bag.
A small camera, binoculars, an umbrella, reading material and a laptop are allowed in addition to the one bag.
Checked baggage depends on your zone
Air Cairo splits its network into zones. The free checked allowance changes with the zone. Zone 1 covers Cairo, Alexandria’s Borg El Arab, Assiut, Sohag, Luxor and Aswan.
Flying in that zone gets you 30 kg checked free. Zone 2 covers Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Marsa Alam and El Alamein. Flying in that zone, or flying domestically within Egypt, drops the free allowance to 23 kg.

Bags heavier than 32 kg or longer than 203 cm are not accepted as baggage at all. They have to travel as cargo instead.
Charter tickets pay less, not more
This is the part of the Air Cairo baggage policy that trips up leisure travelers most. Book a charter flight operated by Air Cairo instead of a scheduled one. The checked allowance on a charter ticket is fixed at 23 kg.
That holds no matter which zone you are flying to. A traveler might assume a charter flight to Cairo carries the same 30 kg as a Zone 1 scheduled ticket. They can show up 7 kg short of what they packed.
Always check the fare type printed on the ticket before you pack to a zone’s higher number.
What extra baggage costs
Air Cairo charges excess baggage by the kilogram rather than by the bag. Prepaying online is always cheaper than paying at the airport. On Egypt to Middle East routes, prepaid excess baggage runs 2 USD per kg.
At the airport that rises to 4 USD per kg, according to the excess baggage page. Egypt to Europe routes run higher. Prepaid excess there runs 4 USD per kg.
At the airport it rises to 6 USD per kg. An oversize bag over 158 cm adds a flat 60 USD fee on both route groups. Charging per kilogram instead of per bag is common across baggage fee structures worldwide.
