Most routes give economy passengers one checked piece at 23 kg. A shorter list of routes allows two pieces at 23 kg each instead of one. That list includes South Africa, Australia, India and Kuala Lumpur.
Business class gets two pieces at 32 kg each on routes where business is offered. Rodrigues is the outlier again, with a 15 kg total rather than a per piece figure.

The maximum size per checked piece is 158 cm total for length, width and height combined. That is the same threshold used for checked baggage on most full service airlines.
Extra bags, overweight, and oversize fees
A first extra bag costs about EUR 70 on Indian Ocean routes. It rises to EUR 140 on flights to the UK, France and Switzerland. A second extra bag costs between EUR 110 and EUR 260, following the same route split.
Bags between 23 kg and 32 kg cost EUR 65 extra on African and Indian Ocean routes. The same overweight bag costs EUR 100 on European, Australian, Indian and Malaysian routes. Anything over 158 cm costs EUR 325 to check, on every route.

What actually happens at the bag drop
Traveler reports on travel forums describe enforcement that has tightened over time. One longtime visitor recalled agents once letting bags run a couple of kilos over 23 kg without comment. The same traveler noted the airline now enforces that line more consistently.
Other travelers describe a workaround some agents have offered. When one bag in a group runs heavy, staff have pooled the total weight across a group’s bags and split it evenly. That avoided an overweight charge on paper, even though the total weight had not changed.
That is a courtesy, not a right, and it depends on the agent at the counter that day. The 158 cm size limit gets similar mixed reports, so treat any leniency as luck rather than policy.
No direct flights to the United States
Air Mauritius does not operate any nonstop route to the US today. The network it kept after restructuring confirms that has not changed. A US traveler booking Air Mauritius is almost always flying a codeshare or connecting onward, most often through Air France into Paris.

Travelers routing through the Gulf or East Africa should compare the connecting carrier too. Emirates, Qatar Airways and Kenya Airways all serve Mauritius, and each sets its own allowance on the connecting flight.
