Asiana Airlines Lost Baggage

Checked against the airline on 4 Sep 2026Official source

This page goes deeper on one part of the policy. The full record is at Asiana Airlines Baggage Rules.

Asiana Airlines values a lost bag at 20 USD per kilogram, or at the Montreal Convention limit of 1,519 SDR where that convention applies. On a US route the convention figure governs.

The per kilogram formula still shapes how the airline thinks about an Asiana Airlines lost baggage claim. The weight on your tag matters.

Asiana publishes its deadlines, its compensation math and a station by station list of email contacts. It does not publish a public tracker.

This page covers the report, how the follow up actually works, and the one time expense payment. It ends with the claim, damaged bag rules and what the airline pays.

How to report a bag that did not arrive

Report to the baggage agent at your destination before you leave the airport. Asiana’s rule is to report incidents at the arrival airport for quick action, not at the departure station. The agent opens a file and gives you a reference to quote later.

Bring your boarding pass and the baggage tag. Asiana lists what a claim needs.

That is the passenger name, flight number, date and baggage tag, plus photos, a description, the brand and the purchase price. Our guide to reporting a missing bag covers what to say at the desk.

A delayed bag must be reported within 21 days. A damaged bag must be reported within 7 days of receipt. Both deadlines come from Asiana’s baggage inquiry page.

Following up on a delayed Asiana bag

Asiana does not publish a self service tracking page the way some carriers do. Follow up runs through the arrival station.

For US arrivals the airline lists a baggage email for each airport it serves. New York is jfklloz@flyasiana.com and Los Angeles is laxlloz@flyasiana.com.

San Francisco is sfokull@flyasiana.com, Seattle is seaku@flyasiana.com, and Honolulu is hnloz@flyasiana.com.

Quote the file reference in every message. Ask the station whether the file has a WorldTracer number.

Most airlines trace through that system even when they publish no lookup page. For what the status words mean, see how to track a lost bag.

A tracker in the bag fills the gap. A Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 works with Galaxy phones.

An Apple AirTag 4 pack covers iPhone users. A live location at Incheon in an email to the station is worth more than a dozen status requests.

The one time expense payment

Asiana provides a one time daily necessity payment when a bag is delayed, on the passenger’s request. It is not automatic.

The airline excludes it when the destination is your original place of residence. It deducts the payment from the final settlement if the bag is later declared lost.

The amount is not printed on the compensation page, so ask the agent at the desk. On flights to or from the United States, federal rules also require reimbursement of reasonable, verifiable expenses.

No arbitrary daily cap is allowed. Keep receipts and read our delayed baggage guide before you shop.

There is a fee refund too. For US flights, Asiana refunds excess baggage charges after a long delay.

The threshold is 15 hours on flights under 12 hours, or 30 hours on longer flights. That rule took effect on October 28, 2024.

When delayed becomes lost, and what Asiana pays

Asiana’s compensation page does not print the day count at which a delayed bag becomes lost. The Montreal Convention treats a bag as lost after 21 days.

Every Asiana flight to the United States falls under it. Ask the station to convert the file to a loss claim at that point.

The airline’s stated limit is 20 USD per kilogram or 1,519 SDR, according to the convention that applies to the flight. On a US route the 1,519 SDR figure, roughly 2,175 USD, is the ceiling.

Loss is calculated at the per kilogram rate or the declared value, whichever is lower. A higher value applies only if you declared it and paid the charge in advance.

Replacement claims for a damaged bag come with 10 percent annual depreciation deducted. Read how lost luggage compensation is calculated before you list values. That depreciation logic runs through every Asiana settlement.

Damaged bags

Report damage within 7 days of receipt, with detailed photos of the damaged area. Asiana pays repair or cleaning costs against invoices. Or it replaces the bag in cash or in kind, with the depreciation deducted.

It excludes minor scratches, scuffs, dents, stains and general wear. Damage to accessories such as locks and name tags is excluded too.

Sporting equipment without a hard case, golf clubs included, is not compensated. On US itineraries, federal rules stop an airline excluding wheels, handles and straps.

Cite that if the station refuses. Our damaged luggage claims guide covers the rest.

What travelers report about Asiana Airlines lost baggage

Traveler accounts of Asiana Airlines lost baggage cases center on Incheon connections. Bags misconnected there usually arrive on the next day’s flight and are delivered locally. The station email is the working channel, and replies come from the airport rather than a central desk.

Asiana Airlines lost baggage claims that pay out have the file reference, the tag, photos and purchase prices in one email. Claims that stall were sent to the wrong station or filed without the tag number.

Prevention

Keep valuables in the cabin, inside the Asiana baggage allowance. Read the Asiana checked baggage page for what the hold will and will not carry.

Tag the outside. A pair of Travelambo leather luggage tags with a phone number and email still reaches you when the airline tag tears off. Put an itinerary printout inside too.

The bottom line

Report at the arrival airport, get the reference, and follow up by email with the station for your arrival city. Ask for the one time necessity payment and keep receipts.

Report within 21 days for delay or 7 days for damage. Asiana’s baggage compensation page sets out the limits above.
