Norwegian Air Checked Baggage

Norwegian Air checked baggage is 23 kg per bag. The fare decides how many bags you get: none on LowFare, one on LowFare+, two on Flex.

Every kilo over 23 costs EUR 15 per leg. Those two facts settle most questions before the counter does.

Norwegian Air checked baggage by fare

Norwegian’s checked baggage page is short and firm. The standard piece is 23 kg, and the fare sets the count.

Weight and size limits

A single bag may not weigh more than 32 kg. Norwegian adds a rule few carriers print: it may not weigh less than 2 kg either.

The total of all your checked bags cannot exceed 74 kg. Each bag must fit inside 250 x 79 x 112 cm with a circumference of no more than 300 cm.

A small checked bag is a separate product. If it weighs more than 10 kg, Norwegian reclassifies it as a regular checked bag and charges accordingly.

What a bag costs, and when

Norwegian publishes its bag prices on its optional service charges page. The cheapest moment is at booking, and the price roughly doubles at check-in.

A small checked bag added at check-in is EUR 30. Prices are per bag, per direction, and charged in the local currency of the airport at the equivalent rate.

The check-in price is the one that catches people. A bag added at booking on a European route can be EUR 19.

Overweight: EUR 15 a kilo, per leg

Any bag over 23 kg pays EUR 15 for each extra kilo, on each flight leg. A 27 kg bag on a one stop itinerary is 4 kilos over on two legs, EUR 120. That is more than a second bag would have cost at booking.

Because the charge is per kilo, splitting weight across two bags is the obvious move on a Flex fare. Two bags at 23 kg each pay nothing; one bag at 30 kg pays EUR 105 per leg. On LowFare+ with one bag, a second bag at booking is far cheaper than 7 extra kilos.

Special and restricted baggage

Skis, golf bags and other sports equipment cannot be booked as ordinary checked baggage. They are a separate special baggage product with their own booking step and price. Norwegian’s dangerous goods page carries the hold restrictions.

The usual rules apply. Spare lithium batteries and power banks travel in the cabin, never in a checked bag.

Connections and other airlines

Norwegian’s own price list treats a connecting itinerary as one product. That is why the check-in bag price doubles to EUR 90 when there is a connection. On a Norwegian issued ticket with a connection, the allowance runs through to the final destination.

A separate ticket on another airline means collecting the bag and checking it in again under that carrier’s allowance. Norwegian sells no interline bag pricing for that case.

Packing to 23 kg

Norwegian Air checked baggage comes down to three numbers. The fare gives you zero, one or two bags at 23 kg.

A bag bought at booking is EUR 19 to 45. At check-in it is EUR 45, or EUR 90 with a connection.

Every kilo over 23 is EUR 15 per leg, with no rounding and a hard stop at 32 kg. Buy the bag when you book and weigh it at home. Split weight across two bags rather than paying by the kilo.
