Scoot’s base Economy fare includes no checked bag at all. Every kilogram in the hold has to be bought separately.

What a checked bag can weigh and measure

Scoot caps every checked piece at 32kg. That cap holds regardless of fare or total purchased allowance.

A traveler with 40kg of allowance cannot check one 40kg bag. It has to split across two pieces, each staying under 32kg.

Each checked bag is also capped at 158cm in total linear dimensions: length, width and height added together. Scoot allows up to 15 checked pieces per passenger, a limit built for cargo shipments more than a normal trip.

Overweight bags at the counter

Scoot’s baggage page states plainly that going over a purchased allowance brings additional baggage charges. The page does not print a flat per kilogram rate.

It points travelers to buy more allowance in advance instead. That is the honest way to read the checked baggage limit on Scoot: buy ahead or risk the counter price.

Weighing a bag at home first is the practical fix. A digital scale such as the Etekcity digital luggage scale costs less than most airlines charge for a single excess kilogram.

Scoot’s page gives no sign that weight can be pooled across two checked bags. Each piece has to clear the limit on its own.

What cannot go in the hold

Beyond the standard FAA list, Scoot’s own page bans sprays, poisons and other toxic substances, certain lithium batteries, gases, flammables and weapons from checked bags. Powder substances face extra restriction on some routes.

Smart luggage with a built in lithium battery has a specific rule. The battery has to come out and travel in the cabin before the bag can go in the hold.

Sporting equipment counts toward the checked allowance a passenger already purchased. It does not travel free, and going over that allowance brings the same charges as any other overweight bag.

Oversized musical instruments cannot travel as cabin baggage on Scoot. The airline instead lets a passenger buy an extra seat for an instrument up to 140cm by 40cm by 45cm and under 32kg.

Connecting flights and interline baggage

Baggage transfers automatically on Scoot only when the whole trip is booked as one itinerary through Singapore Changi. On a separately booked connection, Scoot says the bag will not transfer by itself.

The passenger has to collect it after the first flight and check it in again for the next one. That is worth planning around on a tight connection through Singapore.

Choosing a checked case for Scoot’s weight caps

Most Scoot fares price baggage by the kilogram rather than including a generous free allowance. A lighter empty case leaves more of the purchased weight for what actually gets packed.

The Scoot check-in baggage limit comes down to the fare bought, not one airline wide number. Base Economy means zero checked kilograms until one is purchased.

FlyBag bundles in 20kg, and ScootPlus bundles in 30kg on top of a larger cabin allowance. Every checked piece still has to clear 32kg and 158cm total linear dimensions no matter which fare paid for it.
