This page goes deeper on one part of the policy. The full record is at Air Europa Baggage Rules.
Air Europa gives you 24 hours from landing to report a delayed bag online, and 21 days to file the formal claim. Both clocks are short. An Air Europa lost baggage case that starts on day three already has a problem.
The good news is that the airline’s process is unusually clear. It runs on WorldTracer, publishes its reference format, and offers a public status page. This page covers the report, the tracker, expenses, the claim, damaged bags and what the airline pays.
How to report a bag that did not arrive
Go to the Air Europa counter in the baggage claim area before you leave. The agent opens a Property Irregularity Report, known as a PIR. That is the file every later step depends on.
If the counter is closed or you have already left, use the online tool at mybag.aireuropa.com. Air Europa says the online report must be made within 24 hours of the flight’s arrival. You need your passenger details, the flight, and the baggage tag number.
The tag number has a fixed shape: ten digits, or two letters followed by six digits. It is printed on the sticker the check-in agent put on your boarding pass. Our guide to reporting a missing bag covers what else to have ready.
Air Europa baggage tracking
Once the report is filed, Air Europa emails you the PIR reference. It follows a pattern: three letters for the airport where you filed, then UX, then five numbers. A claim opened in Palma reads PMIUX12345.
Enter that reference and your name on the airline’s manage bag page, hosted on mybag.aero. The airline says most bags are located within the first 24 hours through WorldTracer, the search system that links airline baggage systems worldwide. Add a fuller description and contents within 72 hours, since that is what matches an unlabeled bag to your file.
For what the status words mean, see how to track a lost bag. A tracker of your own helps here. An Apple AirTag 4 pack or a Tile by Life360 tracker for Android shows the agent where the bag is while WorldTracer catches up.
Expenses while the bag is delayed
Air Europa tells you to keep receipts for essential expenses directly related to the incident. It publishes no flat daily amount. Buy what you need, keep it modest, and submit the receipts with the claim.
On flights to or from the United States, federal rules also require reimbursement of reasonable, verifiable expenses. The airline cannot impose an arbitrary daily cap. Our delayed baggage guide explains how to present the receipts.
The claim and its deadlines
The formal claim goes by email to the airline’s baggage claims address, cat.equipajes@cs.aireuropa.com. Air Europa sets the deadline at 21 days from the date of the incident. Send the PIR reference, the receipts, and a contents list with values.
Air Europa does not publish the day count at which a delayed bag becomes lost. Every Air Europa flight to the United States falls under the Montreal Convention.
The convention treats a bag as lost after 21 days. At that point the file changes from delay to loss, and the claim covers contents rather than expenses.
The phone line is in Spain: 911 360 190, or +34 911 360 190 from abroad. It answers 9:00 to 18:00 Central European Time on weekdays. From the US that means calling before noon Eastern.
What Air Europa pays
Flights between the United States and Spain are international, so the Montreal Convention sets the ceiling. The US Department of Transportation puts the current limit at 1,519 SDR per passenger, roughly 2,175 USD. The airline pays proven actual loss up to that figure, not the figure itself.
Receipts, photos of the packed bag and a dated packing list decide the outcome. Read how lost luggage compensation is calculated before you write the list.
Damaged bags
Report damage at the counter before leaving the airport and complete the PIR there. Air Europa then has 7 days from the incident to hear from you by email. It excludes damage arising from the nature or defect of the bag, and it describes ordinary wear as normal use.
In Spain and Portugal, except Ceuta, Melilla, Madeira and the Azores, Air Europa offers a direct replacement service. It says a replacement bag arrives within 3 to 5 working days. Partner stores handle the same job in Brazil, Montevideo, Paris Orly and Tel Aviv.
On US itineraries, federal rules stop an airline excluding wheels, handles and straps. Cite that if a counter refuses. Our damaged luggage claims guide covers the rest.
What travelers report
Traveler accounts of Air Europa lost baggage cases center on Madrid. Bags misconnected on a tight Barajas connection usually surface within a day. The email claims desk is slower than the tracker, and replies can take weeks.
Claims that pay out have a PIR from the airport, receipts, and a list sent inside 21 days. Claims that stall were reported online after the 24 hour window or filed without the tag number. The reference format above is what the desk searches by.
Preventing the next Air Europa lost baggage case
Keep anything valuable in the cabin, inside the Air Europa carry-on limits. The airline also treats household appliances as cabin baggage only, a rule covered on the Air Europa baggage allowance record.
Tag the outside. A pair of Travelambo leather luggage tags with a phone number and email reaches you when the airline tag tears off. Put an itinerary printout inside the bag too.
Check what your fare includes before you pay for a bag. The Air Europa baggage fees page shows which fares carry a checked bag and what an extra one costs.
The bottom line
Report at the counter, or online within 24 hours. Watch for the PIR email, track the bag on the manage bag page, and add details within 72 hours.
File the Air Europa lost baggage claim by email within 21 days with receipts and a contents list. Air Europa’s baggage incidents page sets out every step above.
