Arajet’s cheapest fare skips the carry-on bag entirely. Book the Basic fare on this young Dominican low-cost carrier and you get one small personal item, nothing more. Arajet baggage fees start right there.
Arajet launched out of Santo Domingo in 2022. It now flies to several US cities, including Miami and Orlando. The fare model matches Allegiant’s own bag fee menu or Frontier’s carry-on charges: a low base price, then paid extras for the rest.
What each fare actually includes
Every Arajet fare includes one free personal item. A carry-on bag and a checked bag are separate purchases. Only two of the four fare tiers bundle either one in.
| Fare | Personal item | Carry-on bag | Checked bag |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | Included | Extra fee | Extra fee |
| Classic | Included | Included | Extra fee |
| Comfort | Included | Extra fee | Included |
| Extra | Included | Included | Included |
The Comfort fare is the one that catches people out. It includes a checked bag but not a carry-on. Travelers who planned to live out of a roll aboard still owe a separate fee for it.
Arajet baggage fees for carry-on and personal items
The carry-on limit is 22 by 18 by 10 inches. In metric that is 56 by 46 by 25 cm. The weight cap is 12 kg, or 26 lb, and that includes handles and wheels.
Check the general carry-on size limits before you assume a bag fits. A bag that looks fine in the store can run over once it is packed for a week.
The free personal item is smaller. It tops out at 15 by 9 by 7 inches, or 40 by 25 by 20 cm, with a 6 kg (13 lb) cap. Arajet allows 10 kg on flights within Brazil, but the US limit stays at 6 kg.
Checked bags, overweight, and oversize
Checked bags max out at 158 cm, or 62 inches, added across length, width, and height. Each bag also has a 23 kg (50 lb) weight cap. Arajet sells up to three checked bags per passenger per flight.
Go over on weight and the airline adds it back in 3, 6, or 9 kg blocks. The absolute cap is 32 kg per bag. A bag between 158 and 230 cm total draws a separate oversize charge, the kind of penalty our checked baggage guide covers in more depth.
Why there is no simple price list
Search Arajet’s own baggage page for a flat dollar figure and you will not find one. The airline states only that adding baggage online is cheaper than paying at the airport. Buying earlier lowers the cost further.
That dynamic pricing is normal for a low-cost carrier. It also means real Arajet baggage fees for your trip only show up once you enter your dates and route. Treat any flat number quoted elsewhere as a guess, not a fact.
Use our baggage fees comparison before you assume Arajet beats a US carrier on price. Some routes it will. Others it will not.
What travelers actually run into
One family who flew Arajet across four segments reported that gate staff never weighed or measured their backpacks. This was despite packing carefully to stay under the personal item limit. That kind of leniency happens, but it is not a rule you can plan around.
Traveler reports on sites like TripAdvisor describe an airline that mostly enforces its printed limits. Enforcement still varies by station and by how busy the counter is that day. Pack to the posted carry-on rules rather than betting on a light touch at your gate.
If your bag does not show up
Arajet pays 30 dollars a day, for up to three days, toward essentials if a checked bag is delayed or lost. File the claim at the airport on arrival. Claims made later are not accepted.
Weigh your personal item at home before you leave. A laptop and a water bottle can push 6 kg fast. Run a borderline bag through the size checker tool before you reach the counter.
The bottom line
Arajet baggage fees reward planning more than most US carriers do. Buy your carry-on and checked bag online when you book. Run the numbers first with the baggage cost tool so a bigger bag is never a last minute surprise.
