The allowance is one bag. Maximum size is 22 x 14 x 10 inches, or 56 x 36 x 26 cm. Add the three sides and it totals 46 linear inches, 118 cm.
That box is tighter than the roughly 22 x 14 x 9 many US airlines allow. Copa updated this rule on June 27, 2025. It now covers every fare, every PreferMember tier, and Star Alliance Silver and Gold flyers connecting onto Copa.

The personal item Copa still lets you bring
Alongside the carry-on, one personal item is allowed. Think handbag, backpack, or laptop case. Copa caps that piece at 17 x 10 x 9 inches, or 43 x 25 x 22 cm.
Add the sides and it comes to 36 linear inches, 90 cm. Coats, jackets, and anything bought after security do not count against either limit. It is a short list, but it covers most of what a traveler actually carries.
How the Copa Airlines baggage policy changes checked bags by fare
Economy Basic includes no free checked bag at all. You pay for the first piece and the second piece. Each one is capped at 23 kg, about 51 lb.
Economy Classic includes one 23 kg bag. Economy Full includes two. Business Promo and Business Full both include two checked bags at 32 kg, about 70 lb, each.
Where a checked bag turns into an oversize charge
A standard checked piece can measure up to 62 linear inches, 158 cm, at no extra cost. Anything from 63 to 115 inches, 159 to 294 cm, draws a flat 150 dollar fee per piece.
Past 115 inches, 294 cm, Copa will not check the bag at all. It has to travel as cargo instead, on a separate booking.
Overweight fees depend on where you are flying, not just how heavy the bag is
A bag between 51 and 70 lb, 24 to 32 kg, costs 100 dollars extra internationally. Between 71 and 100 lb, 33 to 45 kg, that fee doubles to 200 dollars.
Domestic flights inside Copa’s network price the same overage lower, at 30 dollars and 60 dollars. Anything past 100 lb, 45 kg, cannot be checked. It has to move as cargo instead.
What travelers actually report at the Copa gate
Copa’s own page states a firm 10 kg cap, but travelers describe far less consistent enforcement. Some flyers say a bag never gets touched beyond a glance at the sizer. Others describe a gate agent pulling a bag aside and putting it straight on a scale with no warning.
That gap shows up often enough that it is a recurring argument on FlyerTalk and TripAdvisor threads about Copa. Some travelers insist Copa never weighs cabin bags at all, while others recall being stopped and weighed on a route that felt random. Travelers consistently report that a bag which already looks stuffed or heavy draws more attention than one that simply looks average.
The published 10 kg carry-on limit is still the rule you are bound by even on the flights where nobody checks it. Pack to that number, not to whatever a friend got away with last time.
