Gulf Air runs two separate baggage systems under one name. The Gulf Air baggage allowance you get depends on where your ticket starts. Fly out of the United States and you get a strict two piece system, with each bag weighed on its own.
Fly almost anywhere else in the network and you get a weight concept instead. The airline simply adds up your total kilos rather than counting bags.
Two systems, one airline
Most of Gulf Air’s route map runs on the weight concept. A passenger can check up to five separate bags. The only rule is that the combined weight stays inside the ticket’s total allowance, according to Gulf Air’s own baggage page.
Flights to and from the United States work differently. Economy passengers get exactly two checked pieces there. Each one is weighed and measured on its own.
What a US ticket actually includes
On flights between the United States and Bahrain, Economy includes two checked bags. Each weighs up to 23 kilograms, or 50 pounds. Falcon Gold, the airline’s business cabin, raises that to 32 kilograms, or 70 pounds, per bag.
The combined linear size of both Economy bags cannot exceed 273 centimeters, or 107 inches. No single bag can weigh more than 32 kilograms under any fare. Anything heavier has to be repacked at the counter.
Carry-on and the personal item
Cabin baggage is where the two classes actually split. Economy gets one bag plus one briefcase. Combined, they cannot exceed 6 kilograms or 45 by 40 by 30 centimeters.
Falcon Gold keeps the same size limit. It allows 9 kilograms in the cabin instead of 6. A laptop, a purse, an umbrella and reading material do not count against either total.

The Gulf Air baggage allowance by fare type
Gulf Air sells Economy in Light, Smart and Flex tiers. On US routes, all three carry the same two bag, 23 kilogram checked allowance.
That is unusual. Many US carriers strip checked bags from their cheapest basic fare. Gulf Air’s Light fare does not touch baggage at all.
The fare tiers change refund and date change rules. They do not change what you can pack.
Buying more room
Extra pieces beyond the free allowance can be purchased in advance on Gulf Air’s site. The airline says prepaying saves up to 40 percent versus paying at the airport.

Gulf Air did not publish a flat overweight or oversize dollar fee on its own site. Budget for a possible repack fee at the counter instead of assuming a fixed charge.
Where travelers get confused
Search forums for Gulf Air baggage allowance and older answers turn up. Many cite 30 kilograms for Economy and 40 for Falcon Gold. Those are real weight concept numbers, just from routes outside the United States, and they do not apply to a US ticket.
Part of the confusion comes from codeshare segments. A Gulf Air itinerary into the US sometimes runs on partner metal operated by American or United. The operating carrier’s own baggage rules apply on that leg, not Gulf Air’s.

Students and infants
Full time university and school students in Falcon Gold or Economy get an extra 10 kilograms of free checked baggage. It applies between Bahrain and their school’s country. That bonus excludes New York, so a JFK routed student ticket does not qualify.
Infants under two get one checked bag up to 15 kilograms on US flights. They also get a 3 kilogram cabin item, plus a free stroller and car seat.
The bottom line
The Gulf Air baggage allowance on a US ticket runs on pieces, not pooled weight. That means two bags, 23 kilograms each in Economy, 32 in Falcon Gold, plus a 6 or 9 kilogram carry-on. Compare that against a similar regional carrier like Qatar Airways or Etihad Airways before you book if bag count matters more than legroom.
