IndiGo has never flown its own plane to the United States. Every 6E ticket that lands you in New York, Boston, Chicago, or Washington runs on a codeshare with Turkish Airlines. That single fact splits the IndiGo baggage allowance into two completely different rulebooks, depending on which leg of your trip you are checking.
Two rulebooks, one flight number
Book a 6E number from Delhi or Mumbai to a US city and IndiGo only flies you as far as Istanbul. Turkish Airlines flies the ocean crossing on its own aircraft. That leg runs under its own baggage rules, not IndiGo’s.
The IndiGo baggage allowance on the India leg looks nothing like what you get on the transatlantic leg. Reading the wrong number off this page could cost you a gate fee in either city.

What fits in the cabin on IndiGo’s own metal
On any flight IndiGo actually operates, you get one cabin bag up to 7 kg. It must fit within 55x35x25 cm, or 22x16x9 in, with the three dimensions adding up to no more than 115 cm, about 45 in, per IndiGo’s own cabin baggage page.
You also get one personal article, a purse or small laptop bag, capped at 3 kg. IndiGo does not publish separate dimensions for that piece, only the weight limit.
Power banks ride in the cabin only. IndiGo caps you at two devices, 160 watt hour each, and says plainly they cannot be charged in flight.
Checked baggage inside India
Standard domestic fares include 15 kg checked. Book two adjoining seats and that rises to 25 kg total.
Each piece tops out at 23 kg. The outer dimensions cannot add up to more than 158 cm, or 62 in.
Go over that limit and IndiGo bills INR 800 per kg at the airport. Book the overage online ahead of time instead, and the tiered rate works out closer to INR 750 per kg, the one real discount on offer here.
Book the cheapest Lite fare and there is no free checked bag at all. Adding one costs a flat INR 1,500, online or at the counter.
Checked baggage once you leave India
International allowances on IndiGo’s own routes scale with distance. Short regional hops like Kathmandu or Male carry 20 kg. Longer runs to Dubai, Doha, Singapore, or Istanbul jump to 30 kg per person.
Jeddah and Madinah also sit at 30 kg. IndiGo notes that figure includes any Zam Zam water you bring home. Nairobi comes in at 25 kg, and the short Jaffna route stays at 15 kg.
None of these apply once Turkish Airlines takes over your trip. That is where the real US specific IndiGo baggage rules actually live.
The US leg runs on Turkish Airlines numbers
For codeshare sectors to the US, IndiGo’s own page lists a hand baggage cap of 8 kg. That is one kilo heavier than what you get flying only within India.
Checked baggage jumps too. You get 30 kg per person across up to two pieces, instead of the 15 kg domestic allowance. The same 30 kg, two piece rule applies on IndiGo’s EU and Africa codeshare sectors.

Where the IndiGo Baggage Allowance Actually Gets Checked
Travelers report that IndiGo rarely weighs a cabin bag on domestic Indian sectors. A bag has to look obviously oversized before anyone at the gate reaches for a scale. Short hops like Delhi to Jaipur draw almost no scrutiny.
That changes on IndiGo’s Gulf routes. Travelers consistently report cabin bags getting weighed at the gate in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The same bag can sail through untouched leaving India and still get pulled aside on the way back.
The same uncertainty follows travelers onto the codeshare leg. IndiGo’s site says bags check through automatically to Turkish Airlines, even across different terminals. Travelers connecting through Delhi still report double checking their tags rather than trusting that on faith.
Extra bags, sports gear, and instruments
A second checked piece costs INR 800 booked online or INR 1,000 at the airport, capped at two extra pieces. Sports equipment counts as special baggage: INR 1,200 domestic, INR 2,500 international, on top of any excess weight charge.
Musical instruments fly free. A guitar in a soft case can go in the cabin. Larger instruments check in, and something cello sized needs its own paid seat.

Flying only within India, the IndiGo baggage allowance is straightforward: 7 kg cabin, 15 kg checked, and a per kg fee if you pack heavy. The moment Turkish Airlines takes over for the ocean crossing, none of those numbers apply anymore.
