Why US departures get a different rulebook
Most of the network runs on a weight concept. You get a total kilogram allowance and split it across bags however you like. US and Canada departures use a piece concept instead, a holdover from American rules that most Asian carriers still honor on transpacific routes.
The Singapore Airlines baggage allowance splits cleanly along that line. Knowing which side you are on matters more than memorizing the whole policy. If your ticket starts in the US, the piece rules below apply for the entire itinerary, both ways.
Carry-on: one bag plus a personal item
Economy and Premium Economy get one cabin bag up to 7 kg, about 15.4 lb. Business, First, and Suites get two.
Singapore Airlines measures the bag by one combined figure. Length plus width plus height must not pass 115 cm, roughly 45 inches total. It does not publish separate length, width, and height maximums.
Run your bag through the size checker before you pack it. A bag that looks compact can still trip a linear limit.
You may also carry one personal item free of charge. Think a laptop bag, handbag, camera bag, document bag, or a small duty-free purchase, capped at 40x30x10 cm, about 15.7×11.8×3.9 in. Parents with an infant get a separate 6 kg allowance for feeding items and amenities.
Checked baggage on US and Canada routes
On US and Canada departures, Suites, First, and Business passengers can check two bags at up to 32 kg, about 70.5 lb, each. Premium Economy and Economy passengers check two bags at up to 23 kg, about 50.7 lb, each.
Every checked piece is also capped at 158 cm combined dimensions, about 62 inches. Go over that and the bag counts as oversized, not just overweight. That changes which fee applies.
What an extra or oversized bag costs
Fees are set by route pair and by how early you buy. There is no single flat US number. Booking an extra piece more than 48 hours ahead runs roughly 120 to 280 dollars.
Wait until the airport counter and that same piece runs 150 to 350 dollars. An extra weight block or an oversized bag runs roughly 80 to 225 dollars on the same sliding scale. The Singapore Airlines baggage allowance rewards planning ahead here more than most carriers do.

Sports gear and musical instruments
Sports equipment counts toward your normal checked allowance, up to 32 kg per item. The piece itself can run as large as 315x75x80 cm. Boxed bicycles are exempt from the oversize fee, a rare bit of generosity in this business.
A small instrument that clears the 115 cm and 7 kg carry-on limits can ride in the cabin. A larger one needs its own checked case. Some travelers instead buy an extra seat, good for instruments up to 40 kg.
Fare tier matters less than you would expect
Outside the US, a Lite or Value Economy fare drops your weight allowance to 25 kg. That is five less than a Flexi or Standard fare. On US departures that gap disappears.
The piece concept fixes Economy and Premium Economy at two bags of 23 kg, no matter which fare code you bought. It is one of the few spots where the Singapore Airlines baggage allowance is simpler for US travelers than for everyone else on the same plane. How strictly the Singapore Airlines baggage allowance is enforced
The published 7 kg carry-on limit is real, but travelers report the enforcement is not the same at every airport. At SFO, ground staff reportedly run a gate spot check on both size and weight before boarding, catching bags that might clear other counters unnoticed.
Elsewhere, several travelers describe agents who weigh a bag, see it is a little over, and say nothing if it still looks manageable. Selection also seems to depend more on how a bag looks than on a universal weigh check: an obviously stuffed bag draws attention faster than one that is a pound over but fits the sizer.
