Across every Economy fare, Cathay’s own fare comparison page lists cabin baggage as one piece, 7 kg. That works out to about 15 lb. The airline states only the kilogram figure.
You also get one small personal item. Think handbag, laptop bag, small backpack, camera bag, or briefcase. Cathay does not publish a separate weight or size cap for that second piece.

Cathay’s own fare comparison page says its baggage policy ‘has shifted from a weight allowance to a piece allowance.’ That is why these numbers now read as bag counts, not a single pooled weight.
Cathay members may also get extra allowance by status tier. The exact bonus is not spelled out on the page we checked.
Premium cabins and the 32 kg ceiling
Premium Economy, Business, and First allowances were not listed on Cathay’s fare comparison page. Those cabins route to the same Baggage Calculator as carry-on does.
One number does hold across every fare and cabin. Cathay Pacific caps any single checked piece at 32 kg, about 70 lb. That figure comes straight from the airline’s Conditions of Carriage.
The 158 cm oversize line and what it costs
A bag becomes oversized once length, width, and height add up to more than 158 cm, or 62 in. Cathay will still carry it up to 203 cm, or 80 in, total. Beyond that needs approval from reservations, at least three working days ahead.
Add a bag beyond your free allowance and Cathay charges by destination zone. From the US, that fee starts near 200 dollars to Hong Kong and climbs toward 260 dollars for other Americas zones.
An overweight bag under 32 kg costs a flat 150 dollars, the same rate everywhere. An oversized bag runs a flat 200 dollars per piece.
How that compares, and a quirky exception

Cathay’s rules get oddly specific past standard baggage, too. A religious idol in Economy can travel boxed, up to 60 by 36 by 36 cm and under 15 kg, on its own purchased seat.
Diplomatic bags use the same box size but can weigh up to 32 kg. A cello sized instrument also needs its own seat, booked through reservations, not online.
What travelers report about the Cathay Pacific baggage allowance
TripAdvisor forum threads describe an inconsistent picture, not a strict one. Frequent flyers report their personal item almost never gets weighed, even combined with a full 7 kg cabin bag, on routes like Hong Kong to Bangkok or London to Perth. Cabin crew and check-in staff, by most accounts, simply do not reach for a scale.
The leniency has a limit. Travelers report far more scrutiny once someone shows up with three or four separate carry-on pieces, since a stray bag count draws attention that a slightly heavy single bag does not. Cathay keeps the right to enforce the printed weight at any point, so the lenient pattern is not a guarantee.
