Bring that overweight and oversize baggage fee down to zero with a scale you trust at home. A digital luggage scale costs far less than that USD 600 band.

Oversize charges apply separately from overweight ones. A bag over 203cm total costs USD 200 per piece on most JAL routes. That charge stacks on top of any weight fee if the same bag also breaks the weight cap.

What cannot go in the hold

Japan Airlines checks the FAA and TSA list plus its own restrictions on top. Loose lithium batteries, spare power banks and most vapes have to travel in the cabin. A thermal event in the hold has no crew nearby to catch it early.
