That is smaller than most low cost carriers allow on jets. It is not a printing error. Overhead bins on a Saab 2000 or a Twin Otter are genuinely tiny, and a bag that fits fine on a jet can be too big for the bin here.
How the Loganair baggage allowance changes by fare
Checked baggage depends on which of three fares you book. Fly includes 15kg of hold luggage. Fly Flex includes 23kg, and Fly Flex+ includes 30kg.
Cabin allowance stays at 6kg across every fare. No single checked bag can weigh more than 25kg on a standard route, regardless of fare. On flights connecting to a partner airline, that ceiling rises to 32kg per bag.
The exception that matters more than the fare chart
Routes to Tiree, Campbeltown, Barra, and the flights between Orkney’s own islands are capped at 15kg on every fare. Fly Flex+ is no exception. A passenger who paid extra for 30kg gets the same 15kg limit as the cheapest ticket on these routes.
This is the detail the fare comparison will not show you. Check it before you pack for an island hop, not after. Barra’s runway is a beach, and the aircraft that lands there is small by design.
Extra bags, sports gear, and fees
A second checked bag, up to 15kg, costs 25 GBP online through Manage My Booking. It costs 30 GBP by phone or at the airport. Golf clubs, bicycles, skis, snowboards, and scuba gear each carry a 30 GBP surcharge per sector, and firearms cost 50 GBP per sector.
Twin Otter aircraft cannot carry bicycles, skis, snowboards, or surfboards at all. This applies on any fare, at any price. If your route uses that aircraft type, ship the gear separately instead.
What actually happens at the gate
Community reports on travel forums describe uneven enforcement. One frequent Scotland flyer said they had never noticed carry on bags being checked. Another warned that even Loganair’s jets are small aircraft, so travelers should assume the limits are real.
Several travelers who packed to the letter still found the overhead bins too small for a full size bag. They had to squash bags down to fit. The lesson is not that Loganair is lenient about the Loganair baggage allowance.
The aircraft itself, not a gate agent’s mood, enforces the 6kg cabin limit.
What Loganair does not publish
Loganair’s own baggage page does not state a maximum linear size for checked bags. It also does not list a separate overweight or oversize fee beyond the flat additional bag charge. Anyone packing an unusually large hold bag should call ahead rather than assume a number the airline has not published.

The Loganair baggage allowance looks generous on paper for a regional carrier, up to 30kg checked on the top fare. The fine print about small aircraft and island routes matters more than the chart. Check your specific route before you pack.
