LOT Polish Airlines checked bag fees
We have not verified this airline's baggage fees against the carrier yet. Rather than guess, we have left it blank — check the airline before you fly.
This page goes deeper on one part of the policy. The full record is at LOT Polish Airlines Baggage Rules.
LOT Airlines checked baggage on US flights is one 23 kg bag on Economy Standard, Flex and Full Flex, two on Premium Economy, three 32 kg bags in Business, and none on Economy Saver. Every piece is capped at 158 cm and 32 kg.
The Saver fare is the one to read twice. It is the cheapest price on the screen and it includes nothing in the hold.
The LOT Polish Airlines record covers the cabin allowance and headline fees. This page is LOT Airlines checked baggage in full. The allowance by fare, the status extras, the size and weight ceilings, how LOT prices extra bags, and what stays out of the hold.
LOT Airlines checked baggage allowance by fare
LOT publishes the long haul figures on its long haul baggage page. Flights between Europe and the United States or Canada use the piece system.
| Fare | Checked bags included | Weight per bag |
|---|---|---|
| Economy Saver | None | Buy a bag at 23 kg |
| Economy Standard, Flex, Full Flex | 1 | 23 kg (50 lb) |
| Premium Economy | 2 | 23 kg (50 lb) each |
| Business | 3 | 32 kg (70 lb) each |
Each piece may total 158 cm in height plus width plus depth. No bag over 32 kg is accepted on any fare. The checked baggage weight limit guide explains why those two numbers turn up on nearly every carrier.
The step from Saver to Standard buys the bag and the flexibility together. Price both before assuming Saver plus a bought bag is cheaper; it often is not on a round trip.
Status extras on the Saver fare
LOT gives its Miles and More elites their bag back on Saver. Senator, HON Circle and Star Alliance Gold members get one extra piece up to 23 kg on an Economy Saver ticket. Frequent Traveller members get the same one extra bag, again on Saver only.
The extra applies to Saver because Saver is the fare with no bag. On Standard and above, the status bag is the same one the fare already includes, so there is no doubling up.
What an extra bag costs
LOT does not print a flat price for an extra bag. Its extra baggage page says the price depends on the specifics of the journey.
The bag is sold through the booking, and online purchase is cheaper than the airport. Extra bags must be bought at least 3 hours before a long haul flight.
The LOT baggage fees page covers how the pricing behaves and what travelers report paying. The baggage cost calculator gives a working estimate for a whole itinerary.
The rules around the price are fixed. A bag over 23 kg and up to 32 kg is overweight and pays a charge.
Over 32 kg it is refused. A bag over 158 cm is oversize and pays a charge. The general guide to overweight and oversize fees shows how those bands compare across airlines.
The 23 kg line
The overweight charge is a band, not a per kilo rate. A 24 kg bag pays the same as a 31 kg bag. There is no such thing as slightly over.
An Etekcity digital luggage scale costs a fraction of any excess charge. It settles the question at home.
On a Premium Economy fare with two pieces, spread the weight. Two bags at 22 kg pay nothing; one at 30 kg and one at 14 kg pay the overweight band for no reason.
What LOT keeps out of the hold
LOT’s hazardous materials page follows the IATA list. Power banks and spare lithium batteries travel in the cabin, never checked. Electronic cigarettes go in the cabin too, and smart bags need the battery removed before check-in.
The site’s page on power banks on a plane covers the watt-hour thresholds. LOT weighs cabin bags at 8 kg, so shifting weight out of the hold has a low ceiling here.
Connecting flights and Star Alliance partners
Most US to Poland itineraries connect in Warsaw, and many start on United or another Star Alliance carrier. On a single ticket the allowance printed on the booking governs the whole trip, whichever airline sold it. For a US itinerary on linked tickets, the DOT most significant carrier rule decides whose rules apply.
On two separate tickets you collect the bag in Warsaw and check it in again under the second ticket’s allowance. A short haul LOT ticket carries a smaller allowance than the long haul one. A separate onward booking can turn a free bag into a paid one.
Packing to 23 kg on LOT
Most fares include one piece and a flat overweight band starts at 23 kg. The empty weight of the case is therefore the number to manage.
The Travelpro Maxlite 5 25 inch is the standard choice. Customer reviews commonly mention how little of a 23 kg allowance it uses, and 25 inches sits inside 158 cm with room.
For Business travelers with three 32 kg pieces, size matters more than weight. The Samsonite Omni PC 28 inch fits 158 cm by the manufacturer’s dimensions. A 30 inch case usually does not and falls into the oversize band.
The bottom line
LOT Airlines checked baggage from the United States is one 23 kg bag on Standard and above, two on Premium Economy and three 32 kg bags in Business. Saver gets none unless you hold Miles and More status. Every piece is 158 cm and 32 kg at most.
Extra bags are priced by journey and must be bought 3 hours before a long haul flight. Buy online for the better price. Keep batteries in the cabin, book connections on one ticket, and weigh before you leave.
Common questions

What happens if my LOT bag is over 23 kg?
