This page goes deeper on one part of the policy. The full record is at Saudia Baggage Rules.

The Saudi Airlines carry-on size is 56 x 45 x 25 cm (22 x 18 x 10 in) and 7 kg in Guest Class. From the United States or Canada, a different rule takes over: one item, 45 linear inches, 16 lb.

That second rule is the one American travelers miss. It is stricter on size than the main box and looser on weight.

This page covers both rules, the weight caps by class, and the personal item. It ends with the gate and the bags that clear the numbers by the maker’s own figures.

The main box, with wheels and handles

Saudia allows one piece of hand baggage free in every class. In Guest Class it is one hand bag or briefcase up to 56 x 45 x 25 cm and 7 kg (15 lb).

The bag must fit in a closed overhead bin or under the seat in front of you. It gets a cabin baggage tag at check-in.

First and Business Class get more. One hand bag to the same 56 x 45 x 25 cm at up to 12 kg.

Plus a briefcase up to 45 x 20 x 35 cm (18 x 8 x 14 in) at up to 9 kg. Our guide to measuring a carry-on shows how to take the numbers with the wheels on.

The 45 cm width is unusually generous. Most carriers stop at 35 to 40 cm.

The 56 cm height is the tight side. A 21 inch US case measures 23 inches with wheels, and 23 inches is 58 cm.

The US and Canada rule

Saudia states that guests departing from the USA or Canada may carry only one carry-on item, in all classes. That item may not exceed 16 lb (7.3 kg) or 45 linear inches, adding height, width and depth. The Business Class briefcase does not apply on those departures.

Run the arithmetic on a typical US carry-on. A bag at 22 x 14 x 9 in totals 45 inches exactly. That leaves no allowance for wheels.

Anything measured at 23 inches tall with wheels is over. Our carry-on size chart shows how many carriers use a linear rule like this.

Weight in the Saudi Airlines carry-on size rules

Saudia prints a weight for every cabin bag. It is 7 kg in Guest Class, 12 kg for the First and Business hand bag, and 9 kg for the briefcase.

Its own FAQ repeats the 7 kg figure as the general rule. Treat that as a number staff can check, not a suggestion.

The 7 kg cap is what makes the empty weight of a case matter. A 6 lb hardside leaves about 9 lb of packing. Our carry-on weight limit guide covers how to pack to a scale.

Which fares include the carry-on

Every Saudia fare includes the hand bag. The fare families split on checked bags instead. Guest Saver carries no free checked bag, Guest Basic and Semi Flex carry one, and Guest Flex carries two.

The Saudia checked baggage page lays that out by class. The baggage fees page covers what an extra bag costs.

The personal item

Saudia lists the free personal item by example rather than by size. Its examples are a coat, a tablet, a handbag, a stroller or baby cradle, and essential items for guests with disabilities. There is no published box for it.

A laptop bag or a small backpack is the hand bag in Guest Class. It does not count as the personal item.

Power banks travel in the cabin only, at most two per passenger. They cannot be used or charged on board.

On flights to or from the United States, every electronic device is screened and may need to power on. A dead laptop can be refused at the gate.

What happens at the gate

Saudia reserves the right to decide whether an item flies in the cabin or the hold. It also tells check-in staff to warn connecting passengers about a second risk.

A compliant cabin bag may be refused at a connecting station because of a smaller aircraft or full bins. A Jeddah or Riyadh connection onto a domestic flight is where that bites.

A bag that fails is checked, and Saudia does not publish a flat gate fee for it. Excess baggage is priced by route at the airport. Board early on a full flight, and keep anything you cannot lose in the personal item.

Bags that clear the Saudi Airlines carry-on size

Two boxes, two answers. The table checks each bag against the main 56 x 45 x 25 cm box and the 45 linear inch US departure rule. It uses the maker’s overall dimensions where the maker states them.

The pattern is simple. A 21 inch American case is fine for the main box in everything but height. It fails the 45 inch US departure rule outright.

A 19 inch case is built to clear both, so confirm the total on its tag. The Maxlite 5 is light at 5.4 lb empty, which helps with the 7 kg cap.

Keep its expansion closed, since it adds 2 inches of depth.

Run any bag through the carry-on size checker before you buy. The Saudia baggage allowance record holds the headline figures for both cabin and hold.

The bottom line

The Saudi Airlines carry-on size is 56 x 45 x 25 cm and 7 kg. Pack to 45 linear inches and 16 lb instead if you board in the United States or Canada.

A 19 inch case is the safe choice for both rules, and a 21 inch case clears neither on paper. Saudia’s carry-on baggage page states every figure above.

Common questions

What is the Saudia carry-on size limit?

56 x 45 x 25 cm (22 x 18 x 10 in) for one hand bag in every class. Guest Class bags are capped at 7 kg, and First and Business hand bags at 12 kg.

What is the Saudia carry-on rule when departing from the USA?

Only one carry-on item is allowed in all classes on departures from the USA or Canada, and it may not exceed 16 lb or 45 linear inches, adding height, width and depth.

Does Saudia allow a personal item as well as a carry-on?

Yes. Saudia lists examples such as a coat, a tablet, a handbag, a stroller or baby cradle, and essential items for guests with disabilities, but publishes no size for it.

Does Business Class get a second cabin bag on Saudia?

First and Business Class get a hand bag up to 12 kg plus a briefcase up to 45 x 20 x 35 cm and 9 kg, except on departures from the USA or Canada, where one item applies.

Can Saudia refuse my carry-on at a connection even if it fits?

Yes. Saudia says free carry-on baggage may not be accepted at connecting stations because of aircraft type or limited overhead space, and check-in staff are told to warn passengers.

How many power banks can I carry on Saudia?

A maximum of two rechargeable batteries per passenger, in carry-on only. They may not be used or recharged on board and are banned from checked baggage.
