This page goes deeper on one part of the policy. The full record is at Saudia Baggage Rules.

Saudia caps checked weight at 23 kg (50.7 lb) per bag in Guest Class. Business and First get 32 kg (70.5 lb) per bag instead. Saudi Airlines checked baggage rules run on weight, not a linear size box, and the fare code decides how many bags fly free.

Some travelers still search under Saudi Airlines, the carrier’s name before it rebranded. Saudia is the name on every ticket and boarding pass today. The Saudi Airlines checked baggage numbers below apply either way.

Saudia does not publish a length plus width plus height figure for checked bags on its own manage baggage pages. Only the two weight caps above are on the record. Pack to the weight, since that is the number the counter scale actually checks.

The full Saudia baggage rules record covers carry-on sizing and the AlFursan fare grid in more depth; this page stays on the checked side.

Checked allowance by fare

Guest Saver carries no free checked bag at all. Anyone flying that fare pays for the first piece from the start.

Guest Basic and Guest Semi Flex include one bag at 23 kg. Guest Flex steps up to two bags at 23 kg each.

Business Basic includes one 32 kg bag. Business Semi Flex, Business Flex and First Flex all include two bags at 32 kg each.

FareFree checked piecesWeight per piece

Guest Flex223 kg (50.7 lb) each
Business Basic132 kg (70.5 lb)
Business Semi Flex / Flex, First Flex232 kg (70.5 lb) each

AlFursan Silver, Gold, Elite and Elite Plus members get one extra free checked piece. That is on top of whatever the fare already includes.

Anyone on Guest Saver who wants a bag added should price out Guest Basic too. The fare gap sometimes lands close to a single bag fee.

What extra baggage costs

Saudia does not print a flat table for a second or third bag. The extra baggage charge is priced per route, at booking or at the airport.

A short domestic sector and a long international one quote different numbers for the same extra piece. See the carrier’s Saudia baggage fees page for how that per route pricing works.

Run a route through the site’s baggage cost calculator before flying to get a working estimate.

Sporting equipment is the one item Saudia does put a flat price on. A bag between 158 cm and 205 cm (62 to 80 in) costs USD 100. One between 205 cm and 300 cm (80 to 118 in) costs USD 167 total, and flights to or from Canada charge CAD 189 total instead.

Anything over 300 cm or 32 kg cannot travel as checked baggage at all. It has to ship as cargo instead.

Overweight, oversize and what counts as cargo

Saudia’s own flat charge for a general overweight bag is not published on its site. Budget for a counter conversation rather than a set number.

The overweight and oversize baggage fees guide explains how most full service carriers structure those bands. It is a useful comparison while a Saudia specific table is not on the record.

A gate agent weighs each bag individually. A 26 kg bag next to an 18 kg one is still an overweight bag, not a wash against a family’s total kilos.

The checked baggage weight limit page walks through shifting weight between bags before that scale runs. It is the cheapest fix when one case is close to the line.

Connecting flights and interline baggage

On an itinerary that mixes Saudia with a codeshare or interline partner, the ticketing carrier generally sets the allowance for the whole trip. The US Department of Transportation calls this the most significant carrier rule.

Saudia’s own connections page does not set the rule out in plain words. Check the ticketing carrier’s own baggage rules when a Saudia flight connects onto another airline’s metal.

Passengers with a dispute over which carrier’s allowance applied can read the department’s own explanation at transportation.gov/airconsumer.

Packing to the 23 kg and 32 kg caps

The lighter the empty case, the more of that 23 kg or 32 kg allowance is left for clothes and gear. Saudi Airlines checked baggage math rewards a light shell more than it rewards a bigger box.

The 25 inch Travelpro Maxlite 5 expandable spinner is one of the lighter cases in its size class. That matters most on a Guest Basic ticket, where a single 23 kg bag covers the whole trip.

A digital luggage scale at home settles the question before the airport does. It costs far less than a single overweight charge on almost any route.

Anyone packing close to 32 kg in Business should weigh both directions of the trip. Souvenirs on the way home are the usual reason a bag that left under the cap comes back over it.

The bottom line

Saudi Airlines checked baggage comes down to weight, not a box. Guest Class gets 23 kg per bag, Business and First get 32 kg, Guest Saver gets zero free bags, and an extra bag is priced per route rather than off a flat chart.

Weigh every bag before leaving for the airport. Check the fare code against the table above, and treat sports equipment and anything past 300 cm as its own separate cost.

Common questions

How many free checked bags does Saudia allow?

It depends on the fare. Guest Saver gets zero, Guest Basic and Semi Flex get one bag at 23 kg, Guest Flex gets two, and Business or First fares get one or two bags at 32 kg depending on the fare class.

What is the maximum weight for a Saudia checked bag?

23 kg (50.7 lb) per bag in Guest Class and 32 kg (70.5 lb) per bag in Business and First. Bags over 32 kg cannot be checked and must ship as cargo.

Does Saudia charge a flat fee for an extra checked bag?

No. Saudia prices an extra bag per route at booking or at the airport rather than publishing one flat chart, so the cost depends on where you are flying.

How much does an overweight bag cost on Saudia?

Saudia does not publish a flat overweight fee on its site, so expect the exact charge to be set at the check-in counter.

Whose baggage allowance applies on a Saudia codeshare flight?

The airline that issued the ticket generally sets the allowance for the whole itinerary, a rule the US Department of Transportation calls the most significant carrier rule.

Does AlFursan elite status add a free checked bag on Saudia?

Yes. AlFursan Silver, Gold, Elite and Elite Plus members get one extra free checked piece on top of whatever their fare already includes.
