Personal item and carry-on: two pieces, one weight line
Every VivaAerobus fare includes a free personal item, even the base Light tier. It measures 18 x 14 x 8 in, or 45 x 35 x 20 cm.
It needs to fit under the seat ahead of you. Light also adds one carry-on piece, capped at 22 lb, or 10 kg.

The VivaAerobus baggage policy for carry-on stays simple on Light: one bag, one weight, until you upgrade the fare.
Checked baggage: same box, two different scales
A checked bag on either fare has to stay within 62 linear inches, or 158 cm. That means adding length, width, and height together, wheels and handles included.
Extra fare includes one checked bag up to 33 lb, or 15 kg. Smart fare includes one checked bag up to 55 lb, or 25 kg, the same size box, just a heavier allowance.
Read your fare name before you weigh a suitcase at home. The ceiling can change under you without the box changing at all.
What Light, Extra, and Smart actually buy
Light gets you a personal item, plus one 22 lb carry-on, and nothing checked. Extra adds a 15 kg checked bag on top of the same carry-on allowance.
Smart is the fullest of the three. It bundles a personal item, two carry-on pieces totaling 33 lb, and a 25 kg checked bag.
VivaAerobus’s own pages we reviewed did not name a fourth tier above Smart. Two carry-on pieces on Smart also beats the single bag most Light and Extra travelers get.
What travelers actually report about enforcement
Travelers consistently report that VivaAerobus checks the carry-on weight, not just its size, and treats it as a real limit rather than a suggestion. A bag that runs heavy gets flagged for an extra charge at the counter, and more than one traveler has called this out as the airline’s main fee trap.
The recurring complaint is less about the published numbers and more about being caught off guard by them. Travelers who assumed carry-on weight worked like it does on a typical US airline describe getting billed once the bag was actually put on a scale.
The airline publishes the weight limits above. Travelers report that enforcement of the carry-on weight, specifically, is the part that surprises people.
Overweight bags, sports gear, and the US powder rule
VivaAerobus will not check anything past 71 lb, or 32 kg, on any fare. Weight above your included allowance draws an extra fee.
The airline’s own pages we read did not print that fee as a fixed dollar figure. Sports equipment and musical instruments can travel as carry-on or checked baggage in a hard case.
Those items need to stay under 32 kg and 126 linear inches, or 320 cm, in perimeter. On US departures, VivaAerobus also restricts powdered products over 350 grams in your carry-on, with an exception for baby formula and food.
What we could not verify
VivaAerobus’s fee and fare pages load through JavaScript we cannot read directly. We could not confirm a dollar figure for the first checked bag, second checked bag, overweight charge, or oversize charge.
We pulled dimensions, weights, and fare inclusions from the airline’s own baggage articles instead. That part of the VivaAerobus baggage policy, the size and weight limits, is fully confirmed, even where the fee amounts are not.
