What Air Transat does publish clearly is the ceiling every checked bag has to clear, no matter the fare. That is 62 inches (158 cm) of linear dimension and 51 lb (23 kg). Stay inside that box and under that weight and the bag travels as a standard checked bag.

Overweight and oversize fees hit the same number

Air Transat charges one fee band for both problems. A bag between 51 and 70 lb (23 to 32 kg) costs an extra CA$100 or US$100. So does a bag up to 115 in (292 cm) of linear dimension.

Air Transat states plainly that oversize and overweight fees cannot be prepaid online. They are paid at the airport only. That makes a scale worth owning if your bag is anywhere near the 51 lb line.

Buying a bag late costs more starting June 2026

Air Transat added a last minute purchase penalty on US routes, effective June 1, 2026. A first checked bag runs about US$62.50 and a second about US$78.25.

That rate applies when a bag is bought within 24 hours of departure. It applies whether the purchase happens online or at the airport counter.

The lesson is simple. If a fare does not include a checked bag, add it as soon as you know you need one.

Carry-on stays weight free, checked bags do not
