Akasa launched in 2022. It is one of India’s newest airlines, flying a single fleet type on a route map centered on India. Its baggage structure reflects that: one domestic number, a separate international number, and a third number just for Phuket.
The domestic allowance is tighter than it looks
On domestic India flights, Akasa’s own baggage page lists one checked piece at 15 kg per passenger. Bag dimensions cannot exceed 158 cm combined. No single piece may weigh more than 32 kg on any route.
Students on eligible fares get a bump to 25 kg, domestic flights only. That exception comes straight from Akasa’s own page, not a rumor.
International routes jump to 30 kg, except one
Fly Akasa internationally and the checked allowance rises to two pieces totaling 30 kg. That is a useful jump for anyone used to the domestic number. Phuket is the one route Akasa carves out on its own page, capped at a single piece and 20 kg.
Akasa’s baggage page does not name every international city it serves. The airline’s network pages were not reachable when this page was checked, even through a browser. Confirm the exact allowance with Akasa if a Gulf or Southeast Asia stop is part of your trip.
The cabin bag has a real weight limit
Akasa allows one handbag up to 7 kg and 115 cm combined dimensions. That limit applies on both domestic and international flights. A separate personal item, something that fits under the seat, is capped at 3 kg.
Some low-cost carriers post a cabin weight limit and rarely check it. Akasa’s own site frames 7 kg as a hard number, not a suggestion. Pack close to that mark, not to a heavier figure you may have seen quoted for other airlines.
What actually happens at the gate
A traveler review of an Akasa flight describes a bag cleared at the check-in desk. It was weighed and sized as fine.
At the boarding gate, the same passenger was stopped again and asked to step aside with the bag. The reviewer noted the same thing happening to other passengers on flights to Ahmedabad and Bengaluru that day.
That is the real texture behind these Akasa Air baggage rules. A bag passing one checkpoint does not guarantee it passes the next one. Budget a few extra minutes at the gate rather than trust an early clearance as the final word.
Fees and fine print Akasa does not spell out publicly
Akasa’s site points travelers to a separate excess baggage section for rates. It does not publish the per kilogram fee on its main baggage page. Booking extra weight ahead online is almost always cheaper than paying at the airport.
A few other rules are worth knowing. Holy water or Zamzam water is allowed up to 5 liters in sealed checked baggage.
Alcohol over 24 percent strength is limited to 5 liters checked. Duty-free alcohol bought airside is capped at 1 liter in the cabin.
How Akasa stacks up against other Indian carriers
Set next to IndiGo, Akasa’s domestic 15 kg checked limit lands in familiar territory for India. Air India, the full service legacy carrier, generally builds a higher allowance into comparable fares. Do not assume every Indian airline treats checked weight the same way.
