Eastar Jet vanished for three years and came back with new owners. The airline suspended all flights in 2020. It sat grounded through a bankruptcy sale, then relaunched in 2023 under private equity firm VIG Partners.
Anyone quoting old Eastar Jet baggage allowance numbers from before the shutdown is quoting a different company in everything but the name.
Today’s Eastar Jet flies an all Boeing 737 fleet out of Seoul, Busan, Jeju and Cheongju. Its international network now reaches Japan, China, Taiwan and parts of Southeast Asia. The figures below come straight from eastarjet.com in September 2026, not from a pre relaunch cache.
Eastar Jet carry-on allowance
Every Eastar Jet ticket includes one free cabin bag. The three dimensions of that bag must add up to 115 cm or less, which is about 45 inches.
The weight limit is 7 kg, or 15 lb. That is tight for a regional low-cost carrier.
Check a bag against that figure with the size checker before you leave the house. Do not find out at the gate.
Eastar Jet also allows one small extra item. A laptop bag, handbag, coat or reading material all qualify. Anything past that gets treated as a checked gate bag and billed at the airport.
Checked baggage depends on your fare
This is where the Eastar Jet baggage allowance splits, and travelers get caught out. Book the full Regular Fare and you get 15 kg, or 33 lb, of checked baggage at no charge.
Book a discounted or Event fare instead, and that free allowance disappears. You are not getting a smaller checked allowance, you are getting none, and you pay for every kilogram from the first one.
Eastar Jet’s international conditions of carriage also set an outer limit. Any single checked bag over a combined 203 cm in three dimensions, or over 32 kg, can be refused outright.
What excess baggage actually costs
Eastar Jet’s own published conditions do not list a flat table of overweight and oversize fees. They point instead to the tariff in effect on the day you check a bag.
That tariff can change by route and by season. This is a real gap in what Eastar Jet discloses in English, and it is more honest to say so than to quote a number the airline will not commit to in writing.

What travelers actually run into
A South Korea travel forum thread on Eastar Jet baggage describes carry-on weight checks as inconsistent at the gate. Staff wave a bag through if it does not look too big.
They still keep the right to pull one aside and weigh it. A bag that is obviously over 7 kg is still a real risk, gate staff or not.
The same thread flags something Eastar Jet’s own site does not spell out. On domestic routes, you cannot prepay extra checked weight online in advance.
You find the overage charge, and pay it, at the airport counter. That counter is also the most expensive place to pay it, so build in extra time if your bag runs heavy.
Fare types change more than the price
Eastar Jet sells Regular, Discount, Event and Package fares. Only Regular Fare carries the free checked bag included in the Eastar Jet baggage allowance.
This trap exists across most Korean low-cost carriers. It bites harder here, because the cheapest fares carry zero checked weight rather than a reduced amount.
If checked luggage is part of your trip, price it in at booking. A bag added later, especially at the airport, always costs more.
How Eastar Jet compares to other Korean carriers
Eastar Jet competes with Korean Air, Jin Air, Jeju Air and Air Seoul on many of the same routes. It is not owned by or affiliated with any of them.
It has been an independent carrier backed by VIG Partners since the 2023 relaunch. Since these carriers overlap on routes like Gimpo to Jeju or Seoul to Osaka, check a competitor’s checked baggage rules for the same trip.

The bottom line
The current Eastar Jet baggage allowance gives every ticket a 115 cm, 7 kg carry-on for free. A 15 kg checked bag comes free only on the full Regular Fare.
Every fare below that means paying for checked weight from the first kilogram, at a rate the airline will not quote until you reach the counter. Given the 2020 shutdown and the 2023 relaunch, treat any Eastar Jet figure found outside its own current site as unverified.
