What the bags cost

We have not verified this airline's baggage fees against the carrier yet. Rather than guess, we have left it blank — check the airline before you fly.

Every Iberia fare includes a cabin bag plus a personal item, even the cheapest one. That is unusual in Europe now, and it is the best feature of Iberia baggage rules.

The cabin bag is 56 by 40 by 25 centimeters, roughly 22 by 16 by 10 inches, at 10 kilograms. The personal item is 40 by 30 by 15 centimeters.

The weight is per bag, not combined

Iberia states 10 kilograms for the cabin bag itself. The personal item is not counted against that figure.

This matters more than it sounds. Air France and KLM weigh both bags together at 12 kilograms.

So a 10 kilogram roller plus a 3 kilogram laptop bag is fine on Iberia and over the limit on either of those carriers.

Business raises the weight, not the size

Short and medium haul Business gets one bag at 14 kilograms. Long haul Business gets two bags at 14 kilograms each.

The dimensions stay at 56 by 40 by 25 throughout. Only the weight and the piece count move.

Premium Economy uses the same 10 kilogram allowance as Economy. The upgrade there is seat and service rather than cabin baggage.

The 25 centimeter depth is generous

Most European carriers stop at 23 centimeters of depth. Iberia allows 25.

Two centimeters sounds trivial until you are pressing a bag into a sizer. It is roughly the thickness of a folded jacket.

A standard US carry-on at 22 by 14 by 9 inches fits inside the Iberia frame comfortably. Bags built to European spec fit with room to spare.

What we could not confirm

Iberia publishes its hand luggage rules clearly. The checked allowance by fare could not be confirmed on iberia.com.

Rather than borrow numbers from elsewhere, this page leaves the checked side blank. That standard is set out in our verification policy.

Your booking flow states the checked allowance against your actual fare, which is the reliable place to read it.

How Iberia baggage rules compare

On entitlement Iberia sits with British Airways rather than with the Lufthansa group. Both keep the cabin bag on the cheapest fare.

The two are group partners, which shows in this shared approach. Lufthansa and SWISS strip the cabin bag from Basic on short haul.

Our European carry-on size guide shows where each carrier lands.

Packing to the Iberia allowance

The 10 kilogram limit is the binding constraint, not the size. Most bags hit 10 kilograms before they run out of room in a 56 by 40 by 25 frame.

Move dense items into the personal item, since it carries no published weight limit. Books, chargers and shoes are the usual candidates.

Weigh the cabin bag alone rather than the pair. Iberia baggage rules count them separately, so that is the number to manage.

The bottom line

Iberia baggage rules give you a large cabin bag on every fare with a real weight limit attached. Manage the weight and the rest takes care of itself.

Confirm the dimensions in the size checker before you fly.
