Olympic Air does not set its own baggage rules. The Olympic Air baggage policy is Aegean Airlines’ group policy. Olympic carries it over to the smaller turboprops it flies between Athens and the islands, and the fine print shifts by aircraft.
One airline, one shared policy
Olympic Air has flown as an Aegean Airlines subsidiary since 2013. Aegean’s own baggage page says its rules apply to both AEGEAN and Olympic Air flights. Olympic’s baggage allowances page lists the same numbers.
So if your ticket shows an OA flight number instead of an A3 one, the allowance does not change. What can change is the aircraft.
Cabin baggage: it depends on the plane
The Olympic Air baggage policy allows one cabin bag up to 55 cm by 40 cm by 23 cm on Olympic’s turboprop aircraft. That is about 21.7 by 15.7 by 9.1 inches. The weight cap on these planes is 8 kg.
On the Airbus jets Olympic shares with Aegean, the same policy allows a larger bag: 56 cm by 45 cm by 25 cm, close to 22.0 by 17.7 by 9.8 inches. Olympic does not publish a separate cabin weight limit for the Airbus fleet. Pack to the stricter 8 kg figure anyway.
One personal item travels free on every flight. A handbag or a thin laptop case works, and it must fit under the seat ahead of you.
Checked baggage by fare
Economy Light, Flex and Family fares include zero checked bags. Economy ComfortFlex and Saver fares include one bag up to 23 kg, about 50.7 pounds, free of charge. Business fares on the A320 and A321 include two bags up to 32 kg each.
Every checked bag, on any fare, must stay within a combined 158 cm. That is 62 inches, adding length, width and height together. Aegean’s shared policy also treats 32 kg as a hard ceiling per bag, and heavier pieces are not accepted at any price.
What actually happens at check-in
Travelers on travel forums describe uneven enforcement on Aegean and Olympic flights alike. Some board with an obviously overweight carry-on and are never questioned. Others get a colored tag clipped to the bag after staff size and weigh it at the counter.
On Olympic’s own turboprops, the constraint is physical, not procedural. Travelers consistently report bag drop staff sending oversized bags straight to the hold. The Dash 8 and ATR cabins simply lack bin space for a full size roller.
One returning flyer put it plainly. On these small planes, it is the size of the bag that gets you, not the number on the scale.
Fees Olympic Air does not spell out
The Olympic Air baggage policy does not publish flat prices for a second bag, an overweight bag or an oversize bag. It points travelers to an online baggage calculator instead. It also notes that adding a bag in advance costs noticeably less than paying at the airport.
That gap is worth flagging, not guessing at. Run your own route through the baggage cost calculator before you fly. Olympic’s site will not give you a number without one.
Comparing Olympic to Aegean and other Greek carriers
Because Olympic runs on Aegean’s own rulebook, checking Aegean Airlines’ baggage allowance answers most questions about an Olympic ticket too. The exception is aircraft type. The two carriers also share check-in counters at most Greek airports.
If your island hopping trip also includes a SKY express flight, check that carrier’s limits on its own. Greek domestic trips often mix carriers, and each one keeps its own rulebook except Olympic and Aegean.
Practical packing for Olympic Air
Pack to 55 cm by 40 cm by 23 cm and 8 kg. That is the safe number no matter which plane you end up on. A carry-on size checker at home catches an oversized bag before the gate does.
Keep liquids in one resealable bag of one liter or less, with containers under 100 ml. That matches the standard rules for liquids and gels at any European airport. Beyond the printed policy, gate staff always have the final say on what boards.

The Olympic Air baggage policy is Aegean’s policy wearing an Olympic Air label, with one real wrinkle. Pack for the smaller turboprop limit of 55 cm by 40 cm by 23 cm and 8 kg. The larger Airbus allowance will always fit inside it.
