Rex caps carry-on bags at 7kg on every fare. There is no separate size chart for the cabin. That single weight number is most of the Regional Express baggage allowance, and anyone used to a strict linear inch chart from a jet carrier will notice the difference at check-in.
Rex, short for Regional Express, is now a subsidiary of the American holding company Air T. The airline entered voluntary administration in 2024. Its Boeing 737 jet network shut down in that process and has not restarted.

Carry-on and personal item allowance
The cabin allowance is 7kg per passenger. It is the same across Community, Promo, Saver and Flex fares. Rex does not publish a maximum bag size.
The practical limit is whatever fits in a Saab 340 overhead locker or under the seat. A small backpack, laptop bag, umbrella or reading material can travel in addition to the main cabin bag. Travelers moving from a jet operator should check dimensions with a size checker first.
Checked baggage by fare type
Checked allowance depends on the fare bought. Community, Promo and Saver fares include 15kg. A Flex fare steps up to 23kg.
Rex Flyer status can raise the free allowance too. Diamond members get 23kg on any fare. Opal, Sapphire and Emerald members get 23kg once they book Flex.
A lap infant not holding a seat gets an extra allowance. Up to two items totaling 10kg are permitted. That covers prams, portable cots, car seats or capsules.
Excess, oversize and priority baggage fees
Extra weight costs $5.50 per kilogram at the standard excess rate. A bag whose combined height, width and depth passes 140cm draws an added $16.50 oversize charge per piece. Buying 5kg bundles in advance, at $20 each, is cheaper than paying excess at the counter.

It runs $5.50 per kilogram of the bag’s actual weight, on top of any normal excess owed, and it must be bought before check-in closes.
What the Saab 340 network means at the gate
Rex has no heavy forum record of cabin bag disputes, unlike larger carriers with active frequent flyer forum threads. What is verifiable instead is the aircraft itself. The Saab 340 is a 34 seat turboprop.
Its overhead lockers are noticeably smaller than a mainline jet’s. A 7kg bag that clears easily on a Boeing can still get gate checked for space, not weight. Passengers connecting from an international jet flight should pack a soft, low bag for this leg.
Special and musical items
Cellos and guitars can travel with a purchased seat. The weight limit is 20kg, or 25kg on a Flex fare, for a $22 service fee. Sports balls are allowed in the cabin if deflated and stowed in the overhead locker.
Anything over 32kg per item is too heavy for the passenger baggage system. It has to travel as air freight instead.
Rules on a connecting ticket
Rex operates only within Australia, so the Regional Express baggage allowance rarely stands alone for a US traveler. US travelers usually meet it as a domestic connection after an international flight. On a single through ticket, the checked bag rules that apply typically follow the marketing carrier or the through fare, not Rex’s own domestic figures alone.
