SalamAir includes just 5 kg of cabin baggage on every fare. Nothing else rides free in the cabin. That 5 kg allowance sits under the seat only, not in the overhead bin.

SalamAir is Oman’s low cost carrier, based in Muscat and flying as OV. It is a separate company from Oman Air, the country’s full service flag carrier.
The two run entirely different baggage rules. Do not carry an Oman Air allowance into a SalamAir booking.
Cabin baggage: 5 kg and a strict size box
The SalamAir baggage allowance starts with one small cabin bag up to 5 kg on every ticket. It must fit under the seat in front of you. Dimensions are capped at 25 by 33 by 20 cm, roughly the size of a large backpack.
That is not a rollaboard. There is no separate free personal item on top of it.
Want a real carry on trolley bag in the overhead bin? You have to add it. SalamAir sells a 10 kg cabin trolley bag service, capped at 56 by 45 by 25 cm, as a paid extra on fares that do not already include it.
Buying cabin space costs less before you fly
The trolley bag add on is priced in stages, and the gap is real money. On domestic Omani routes it runs 9.9 OMR at booking. It rises to 12.9 OMR through manage my booking.
At the check in counter it is 15 OMR, and at the departure gate it hits 20 OMR. On GCC, Indian subcontinent, and long haul routes the gate price climbs toward 32 OMR.
SalamAir states plainly that the service does not guarantee overhead bin space, even once purchased. It is also non transferable and non refundable. Buy it when you book if you know you will need it.
Checked baggage: pick a weight tier, not a bag count
Checked baggage is sold in tiers of 10, 20, 30, or 40 kg, added at booking. The 10, 20, and 30 kg tiers are one piece each. The 40 kg tier splits into two pieces instead.
Each individual bag is capped at 32 kg. Total dimensions cannot exceed 160 cm for length, width, and height combined.
What it costs if you show up with more
Extra weight bought at the airport is charged per kilogram, and the rate depends on where you fly. SalamAir’s published rates are 4 OMR per kg on regional routes and 5 OMR per kg to South and Central Asia.
International routes run 6 OMR per kg. Connecting itineraries run 7 OMR per kg. Every one of those rates comes with separate airport handling charges on top.
An extra bag beyond your allowance adds a flat 15 OMR, plus those same airport charges.
Fare bundles set your starting allowance
The Lite fare includes only the 5 kg cabin bag and nothing checked. Saver adds the 10 kg cabin trolley bag but still no checked baggage.
Value adds checked baggage to the booking. Flexi adds a larger checked allowance, plus a free meal and one flexible date change.
SalamAir does not publish the exact checked kilograms for either bundle on its fares page. Anyone comparing the SalamAir baggage allowance across fares should confirm the number for their specific booking before relying on it.
What travelers actually run into at the airport
Traveler reviews describe SalamAir enforcing the 5 kg cabin limit strictly. One passenger reported being charged 200 AED for being 3 kg over.
Another said a gate agent rejected their wheeled cabin bag outright, insisting the cabin allowance had to be a soft sided bag. That traveler said the restriction appeared nowhere on their booking confirmation or ticket.
Whether that call was standard policy or a station specific judgment is unclear. The pattern across the reviews is consistent though: bring a soft bag under 5 kg, or expect a conversation at the counter.
The bottom line
The SalamAir baggage allowance is workable, but only if you plan around it. The included 5 kg cabin bag is tight.
The trolley bag and checked weight are both cheaper before departure than at the gate. Gate side charges scale up fast by destination.
