The Vietjet carry-on size is 56 x 36 x 23 cm. The weight cap is 7 kg for the main bag and the personal item together.

The 36 cm width is the problem for US bags. A standard 22 x 14 x 9 inch carry-on converts to 56 x 35.5 x 23 cm. It fits by half a centimeter.

The 7 kg rule covers both bags
Vietjet allows one main carry-on item and one small personal item. Their total weight may not exceed 7 kg (15.4 lb).
The airline adds that the figure depends on fare class and route, so a higher fare may quote more. Check the allowance printed on your booking.

The label rule
Every carry-on must carry a Vietjet carry-on baggage label. You get it at the check-in counter, where staff weigh and size the bag before sticking it on. The airline’s page says any carry-on without the label will be refused on board.
That means online check-in does not skip the counter if you have a cabin bag. Build in time for the queue.
Vietjet also reserves the right to check weight and size again at the boarding gate. The label is not a guarantee against a second look.

The personal item box
Vietjet gives three shapes for the small personal item. A handbag, books, a camera, baby food or an airport shopping bag up to 30 x 20 x 10 cm.
A suit carrier up to 114 x 60 x 11 cm when opened. Or a laptop bag up to 40 x 30 x 10 cm.
The 30 x 20 x 10 cm box is smaller than a sheet of letter paper. In practice the laptop bag option, at 40 x 30 x 10 cm, is the one most travelers use.

What happens when a bag fails
A bag over the Vietjet carry-on size or weight is not allowed on board. At the counter it becomes checked baggage at the counter rate.
At the gate, Vietjet says you pay a fee for transportation or the bag is refused. It states plainly that fees are higher at the check-in counter and the gate than online.
Fees are collected in local currency. At a Vietnamese airport you pay in dong by whatever method the airport supports.
The airline’s advice is to buy baggage in advance to save costs. If you know the bag is over 7 kg, buy a checked tier online before you fly.

On Vietjet the honest answer is often a backpack rather than a roller. A soft bag with no wheels weighs under a kilogram and fits the 36 cm width on its side. That leaves 6 kg for contents.
A roller spends a third of the allowance on itself. Run any bag through the carry-on size checker before you buy.
