VietJet Air Checked Baggage

Vietjet sells checked baggage as a purchased weight package, and no single piece may weigh more than 32 kg.

Standard checked baggage: 32 kg and 119 x 119 x 81 cm

Vietjet’s standard checked bag may not exceed 32 kg per piece. Its dimensions may not exceed 119 x 119 x 81 cm (47 x 47 x 32 in). Golf equipment with a total of length plus width plus height under 203 cm counts as standard.

How the weight packages work

Vietjet checked baggage is sold by total weight rather than by piece. You buy a package in advance through the website, ticket offices, agents or the customer service center.

The airline states that fees are higher when purchased at the airport. Prices are set by route and paid in local currency, so there is no single US dollar table.

Vietjet’s own example makes the pooling clear. A 30 kg oversized package covers one oversized item of 25 kg plus one standard bag of 5 kg. Weight pools across pieces within the package, but no single piece may pass 32 kg.

Oversized baggage

The oversized service applies on Vietjet operated flights only, and it has run since March 2020. An oversized item may exceed the standard dimensions, up to 200 x 119 x 81 cm and 32 kg. The package price includes the standard baggage fee and a handling fee.

If you bought a standard package and now need oversized, Vietjet lets you change it. Do so through its sales channels at least 3 hours before departure. Sports equipment beyond those limits travels as cargo for an extra fee.

Large musical instruments can go as oversized baggage or occupy an extra seat. The seat option allows up to 165 x 44 x 66 cm and 75 kg.

What cannot go in the hold

Vietjet’s list of refused items is longer than most. It will not accept badly packed items, dangerous goods, anything prohibited by law, or fragile and perishable items. Live or dead animals are refused, and so is fresh or frozen seafood or meat unless properly packed and approved.

Firearms, ammunition, explosives, gases and flammable liquids are refused. Weapons such as swords and knives need special approval.

Valuables belong in the cabin. Vietjet names cash, jewelry, cameras, laptops and phones as items to carry in hand baggage, not checked. Detachable lithium batteries and power banks are accepted in carry-on only.

The limit is two power banks per passenger. Pack them inside the Vietjet baggage allowance for the cabin, which is a tight 7 kg.

Strollers, wheelchairs and mobility aids travel free. Infants under two get no baggage allowance at all.

Whose allowance governs on a connecting ticket

Vietjet sells its own flights, and a Vietjet package covers Vietjet sectors. If your itinerary combines Vietjet with another airline on separate tickets, each carrier’s rules apply to its own flight. You collect and recheck the bag between them.

On a single ticket with another airline, the most significant carrier rule decides whose allowance applies. Your ticket receipt states it.

What happens at the counter

Expect every bag to be weighed against the package you bought. Weight over the package is sold at the airport rate, in local currency.

Vietjet says plainly that airport fees are higher than advance purchase. A bag over 32 kg is refused outright, so split heavy loads across two pieces first.

Cases that keep a package honest
