This page goes deeper on one part of the policy. The full record is at Vueling Baggage Rules.
You have 24 hours after landing to open a Property Irregularity Report at Vueling’s Lost and Found desk. Do it before you leave the baggage claim area. Miss that window and a Vueling lost baggage claim gets much harder to prove.
The desk issues a PIR reference code. That code is what you use for every step that follows. Vueling flies mostly within Europe, so most cases here fall under the Montreal Convention, not any US domestic rule.
The process below comes from Vueling’s own delayed or lost bag claim page, read the same day this page was written. It also draws on the Vueling baggage rules record on this site.
Tracking your delayed Vueling bag
Vueling does not name WorldTracer or a dedicated tracking app on its own help pages. Once your PIR is logged, Vueling texts or calls you when the bag turns up. You can also log in separately to update your delivery address or add location details for the search.
That tracking portal sits at mybag.aero under Vueling’s own account. The link comes through your PIR confirmation. Our own guide to tracking a lost bag covers what the status labels mean if you are unsure.
How to file the report
Go to the Lost and Found office in the arrivals hall. Do this before you leave the baggage claim area. Staff open the PIR on the spot, whether the airport uses a paper form or a digital one.
Keep the reference code. You will quote it every time you contact Vueling about the bag. Our own step by step guide to reporting a lost bag walks through what to have ready at that desk.
Interim expenses while the bag is missing
Vueling reimburses reasonable purchases made while you wait. Two things have to be true first: 24 hours must have passed since the PIR, and the bag must already be back in your hands. You then have 21 days from getting it back to submit receipts.
Covered items include clothing, toiletries and chargers. Hire of a pushchair or wheelchair the passenger needed in the meantime is covered too. Keep every receipt, since Vueling asks for them before it pays out.
When a delayed bag becomes a Vueling lost baggage claim
Vueling treats a bag as officially lost, not just delayed, 21 calendar days after the PIR was opened. At that point you file compensation through the general enquiry form on Vueling’s own site. Quote the PIR code and your bag tag number.
Wheelchair or mobility equipment claims need extra documentation. Check the form’s requirements before you submit a Vueling lost baggage claim for that kind of item.
Compensation limits
Vueling’s liability for a lost, damaged or delayed bag is set by the Montreal Convention. Vueling’s help pages point to that treaty rather than quoting a flat euro figure. The current Montreal Convention limit is 1,519 SDR per passenger, the rate that has applied since 28 December 2024.
That figure comes from the five year inflation review the treaty requires. Some older carrier and government pages still print 1,288 SDR, the previous figure. Treat any page still showing 1,288 as stale.
SDR is an IMF unit that moves daily against the dollar and euro. The exact payout depends on the exchange rate the day your claim is settled. Vueling is a European carrier, so the US Department of Transportation’s domestic baggage liability cap does not apply here.
Damaged bags
A cracked shell or broken wheel gets reported the same way as a missing bag. Go to the Lost and Found desk before you leave the airport. If damage only becomes obvious once you are home, Vueling’s damaged bag article covers that route too.
Our own damaged luggage claims guide covers the photo evidence and timeline that make a claim stick. Normal wear, scuffs and minor scratches are not covered under the Montreal Convention or Vueling’s own policy. Structural damage that stops a bag closing or rolling properly is the kind of claim that gets paid.
Cutting the odds of a Vueling lost baggage headache
A visible name tag beats a hidden luggage label every time a bag gets pulled off the wrong belt. Vueling’s checked baggage weight tiers run through 30 kg. A heavier bag is more likely to get flagged and separated from your flight during a tight connection.
An Apple AirTag dropped inside a checked bag lets you show the desk agent exactly where your case is sitting. That matters most when a PIR search stalls. Android travelers get the same result from a Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 or a Tile Bluetooth tracker.
A simple leather luggage tag with a privacy flap on the outside handle still matters most. It is what actually gets a bag rerouted to you fastest, tracker or not. A credit card with baggage delay cover can also pay out faster than waiting on Vueling’s own 24 hour rule.
See our baggage insurance and credit card cover guide for how the two claims interact.
Iberia, Vueling’s sister airline under the IAG group, runs a similar PIR and 21 day process. Its own Iberia lost baggage page is worth a look if you are connecting between the two carriers on one itinerary, since the airline that operated the last leg is usually the one that handles the claim.
The bottom line
File the PIR before you leave baggage claim, and keep the reference code. Know the clock: 24 hours before interim expenses count, 21 days before the bag counts as lost. A Vueling lost baggage claim is capped at 1,519 SDR under the Montreal Convention, and a tracker in the bag is the one thing that consistently speeds up a stalled search.
