What Yeti Airlines actually flies and where the rules apply
Yeti Airlines runs ATR turboprop service out of Kathmandu. Its published cities include Pokhara, Nepalgunj, Bhairahawa, Biratnagar, Bhadrapur, Janakpur and Simara. It also sells a Mountain Flight past Everest that returns to Kathmandu without landing.
None of Yeti Airlines’ own published routes is a landing at Lukla. That matters for the Yeti Airlines baggage allowance question, since Lukla flights belong to other carriers entirely.
What Yeti Airlines publishes on baggage
Yeti Airlines’ Conditions of Carriage say passengers may carry baggage free of charge. The limits are shown on the e-ticket or available from an authorized agent. No general kilogram figure for checked or hand baggage appears on the airline’s own pages.
Travelers should treat the number on their booking confirmation as the real Yeti Airlines baggage allowance for that ticket. The same policy caps Yeti Airlines’ liability for a checked bag at USD 20 per kilogram. That cap tops out at USD 5,000 per passenger, and damage to unchecked cabin baggage is capped separately at USD 400.
Excess baggage rates by route
Yeti Airlines does post one real number: a per kilo charge for going over the allowance. It varies by destination. On the routes it publishes, the rate runs from NPR 90 per kilo on the Simara sector up to NPR 250 per kilo on the Nepalgunj sector.
Pokhara, Bhairahawa, Biratnagar, Bhadrapur and Janakpur are priced in between. A traveler packing heavy for Nepalgunj pays a very different price than one packing heavy for Simara. Same extra kilo, different bill.

Connecting from an international flight
Yeti Airlines does not fly to the United States. Almost every American boards it as a separately arranged Nepal sector after landing in Kathmandu. It pays to check that carrier’s checked baggage rules first. A domestic Yeti Airlines sector booked on its own ticket follows Yeti Airlines’ own fare rules instead. There is no US carrier allowance to fall back on there.
Mountain flights are a different carrier with a different limit
Lukla is not on Yeti Airlines’ own route list. The strict small aircraft limits some travelers associate with the airline actually belong to other operators flying Twin Otter and Dornier aircraft into that short mountain strip. Those carriers commonly enforce a combined weight near 15 kilos per passenger.
That split usually runs 5 kilos of hand baggage and 10 kilos checked. Yeti Airlines itself cannot be verified against that figure. It is simply not the carrier operating the flight.
Buddha Air, the closest direct peer on Nepal’s ATR network, sets its own published baggage allowance for comparison. Checking both fare rules before a Nepal trip avoids surprises at either counter.
Community enforcement: what travelers report
Forum threads describe Nepal’s mountain flights weighing bags as a combined group total. Couples and small groups reportedly get to pool their kilos on those Twin Otter routes. That practice has been reported for years, but it is not written into any airline’s published policy.
It also has nothing to do with Yeti Airlines’ own ATR network. Anyone counting on pooled weight should confirm it at the check-in counter rather than assume it will hold.
Packing around an unpublished limit
With no fixed number to pack to, check the allowance printed on the e-ticket as soon as it is issued. Pack to that exact figure. A size checker still confirms a cabin bag will fit under an ATR seat.
