Transavia sells checked baggage by the kilo, not by the bag. You buy 15, 20, 25, 30, 40 or 50 kg and spread it across up to five pieces. No Transavia fare includes a hold bag, so Transavia checked luggage is always an add-on.
The only question is whether you buy it online or pay roughly double at the airport.

How Transavia checked luggage is priced
You do not buy a bag. You buy a weight allowance, and the price depends on the route and on how far ahead you book. The online price is a range that moves with demand; the airport price is fixed and always the worst deal.

Flights to and from Senegal run higher. Online it is from EUR 74 for 15 kg up to EUR 164 for 50 kg.
At the airport it is EUR 160 to EUR 340. The Amsterdam to Beirut route is capped at 30 kg per person, with no extra kilos sold at the airport.

The rules once you have bought the kilos
Transavia’s checked baggage rules set three hard limits. The total is 50 kg per passenger.
No single piece may weigh more than 32 kg. None may exceed 165 cm in length plus width plus height, handles and wheels included.
Within those limits you split the weight however you like across a maximum of five pieces. A 30 kg allowance can be one 30 kg case or two 15 kg cases. Few European carriers write pooling into the rule this plainly; most leave it to the desk agent’s mood.
Baggage must be booked at least two hours before departure, and only before check-in. Once you have checked in, online or at the airport, nothing on the booking can change. Each child also gets one pram or folding buggy up to 10 kg free.
What happens when your bag weighs more than you paid for
At the airport, every kilo over your booked allowance costs EUR 15. A 20 kg allowance and a 24 kg suitcase means EUR 60 on top. That is more than a 25 kg allowance would have cost online, and the airport does not round in your favor.
Turn up with no allowance and a suitcase, and you pay the airport rate for the tier you need. That is EUR 70 for 15 kg on a Dutch or Belgian route, EUR 60 from France. Transavia says booking at the airport is easy, and it is; it is just expensive.
The 32 kg per piece cap is absolute. A 35 kg case is not an overweight fee. It is a case the handlers will not lift, so you repack at the desk.
A checked baggage weight limit of 23 kg is the norm elsewhere. Travelers used to US carriers tend to overestimate what a 20 kg tier holds.
What Transavia bans from the hold
The carrier’s prohibited items list is stricter than the FAA list on a few points. Electronic cigarettes, electronic pipes and vapes cannot go in Transavia checked luggage at all and must stay with you. Loose batteries, including laptop and camera spares, belong in your hand luggage.
Hoverboards, airboards, electric skateboards, waveboards and aqua scooters are banned outright, in either bag. Laptops and phones are meant for the cabin. If one does go in the hold, disconnect the battery or at least switch the device off.
Sports weapons and ammunition are accepted only if registered with the Service Centre at least 72 hours before departure. Kitchen knives are fine in the hold if properly packed. AirTags are explicitly allowed in both checked and cabin bags.

Connecting flights and KLM tickets
Transavia is a point to point airline. A flight bought on a Transavia booking carries a Transavia allowance. A separate onward ticket on another airline means a separate allowance and a bag you collect and check again.
The rules on the KLM checked bag page apply only when KLM issued the ticket. If a KLM or Air France booking includes a Transavia flight number, the allowance printed on that booking governs.

Packing to a kilo tier
